WPML requires at least two languages installed to work correctly. When you install WPML, you should add the default language of the site and English, then you can translate your entire site to English. Finally, you have to set English as your default language and hide your default language, however you shouldn’t deactivate it.

if you want to cancel your Pay-as-you-go account (for translation credits), you need to go to your WordPress site, WPML > Translation Management > Automatic Translation > Settings and cancel it from there. If you want to remove your WPML subscription (for the plugin), you need to log into your WPML account and you will find the opinion there.
My site’s default language is English (mysite.com). I plan to translate it to Spanish (mysite.es).
My English site uses lots of manual internal links in posts/pages/products. For example, here is a manual link to one of the landing pages: How to choose packaing However the Spanish version of the landing page will have a different URL: /cómo-elegir-el-embalaje/
Will WPML automatically replace the manual links for me? If so where can I learn more details on how link replacement works?

Yes, WPML can detect internal links and will replace them automatically to point to the translated version. When you use the “Translate everything” mode that translates your whole site automatically replacing links will be done automatically. If you plan to open each page and then click the “Translate automatically” button for each, you might need to do some extra work to manually approve some links (apply the so-called markers).
I don’t know much about the nature of these links. Whether these are normal links (href tags in HTML terms) or buttons, whether you use Elementor or other page builders. depending on the case, some extra manual work might be needed but if you have a page/post using WordPress blocks, these internal links will be handled automatically.

yes, you can. Technically you will need 3 plugins from WPML to set up a multilingual and multi-currency website with WPML
– WPML core plugin
– WooCommerce Multilingual plugin
– String translations plugin (to translate some extra texts from WooCommerce such as email notifications)
but all three are available in the Multilingual CMS package.

My website is setup to receive land/houses for rent/sale from users and then to display them on a map. I would like to confirm that the users will be able to submit data from the website forms I’m using with the HOUZEZ theme.
When my users submit data from the website forms, when will it be translated into english? Will there original text the user submits be stored as well?
WPML works in two modes:
1. Translate everything – that translates content as soon as new posts/pages appear.
2. Translate some – you need to select which pages to translate (but here you can also apply manual translations).
The first option might not work with forms from specific themes. I’m gonna check it out with our Compatibility Team. If they confirm that it doesn’t work with forms, you would need to manually select the forms on your backend and apply translations.
But yes, in either case, WPML stores both the original text and the translation.

Hello, only the person who bought WPML can register the site. You need to ask the developer to register your new domain. He needs to do it on his WPML account and then you take the registration key and you log into your WordPress site, go to Plugins > Add new > Comercial tab and then paste the key. Or you can buy WPML for yourself and then you don’t need the developer’s help.
We are looking into solutions to have two or three languages for each country. We are interested to build a country switcher that shows just a part of the languages with custom content to that country.
For example, if a user comes from Belgium and he picks Belgium as a country, he gets content about Belgium in either French, German or Dutch.

basically, there is no “translate all” button so I’m not sure if you are referring to something specific in WPML or you have a general question because you would like to understand your options. WPML can work in two modes: 1) Translate everything 2) Translate some. If you have the first option turned on, whenever you add new content it gets translated automatically the moment you add it. If you make edits to existing content, the existing translations of this page/post are being translated again but only the parts that you have just updated in your original language. If you have the “Translate some” option turned on nothing happens automatically but you can still apply machine translations. If you switch from option #2 (Translate some) to option #1 (Translate everything) WPML will ask you if you want to automatically translate all of your existing content or only new content. Even if you select automatically translate all of your existing content only untranslated pieces of your content will be translated. In other words, if something has been translated, it’s saved for good (both in your WordPress database and in WPML’s so-called translation memory so that you don’t waste translation credits to translate the same stuff again). I hope it helps but if you need further help to understand your options and possibilities, please let me know and I will explain.

I need to translate my website from BG to EN. I tried a product of your competition which did the job with literally one-click, however I find it too expensive and need an alternative. Your product came in highly recommended. I do have a couple of questions though.
1. I read over the web that I don’t have an easy default language switcher with WPML. Rather, I have to set it up by myself either as a shortcode or directly into my HTML/PHP. Is this true?
2. Regarding machine translations – Ideally I would like to enable the plugin and get my website translated automatically, after that I only want to review the translations and make edits wherever necessary. I have three questions coming from this:
2.1 Is it possible to one-click translate my entire website? I saw you have machine translate, but I want to confirm.
2.2 Do I have an easy-to-use intuitive dashboard through which I can review the translations and make changes on the fly?

thank you for your interest in WPML. Yes, WPML is much cheaper than Weglot when it comes to translating your content. Moreover, we allow you to choose the translation engine (Microsoft’s Azure, Google Translate or DeepL) and this way further control the costs of your translation. Besides, ones translated, your translations are saved in your WordPress database and you can keep them even if you cancel your WPML subscription
To answer your questions:
1. You can insert the language switcher easily through our GUI (no need to use HTML/PHP or even shortcodes). You go to WPML > languages and there you will have a bunch of option where you can inster your language switcher (to you menu, sidebar, footer etc…) Can I ask what made you think that this is not possible? Maybe we need to imorvide our documentation to make it clear and not to confuse our users.

To install it on new sites after the first year, you need to renew your WPML subscription (you will get a discount for the next year – account renewals cost 75% of the original price). Please note that the 99$ package allows you to register WPML only on 3 production websites and if you need to install WPML on more websites you need to upgrade it to the Agency plan.
I want to turn the shopping site above into a multilingual site and it looks like your plugin will be most useful. I have three questions before making the decision:

I want to turn the shopping site above into a multilingual site and it looks like your plugin will be most useful. I have three questions before making the decision:
1) Using Woocommerce as my shopping cart plugin, will I still be able to have one inventory (with the products from the different languages) and one place where orders come in? How does WPML work with woocommerce? I haven’t used your multilingual plugin before. If have a documentation link that would great.
2) Is it okay to have woocommerce products in some languages and not in others? In the other multilingual plugin I have used that was possible.
3) the checkout experience and all that is related to woocommerce can that be ‘translated’ too? I will be working with the following languages: English, French, Italian, German and Finnish

2. If different template per language is possible then when changing design of one language will it synchronize to another language?

1. Yes, you can use different templates per language. However you would need to use the manual translation as explained here.
2. If you use the manual translation, the designs should remain independent.
3. For a WooCommerce site you should need our Multilingual CMS or Agency licenses.

My question is about URLs in countries with different languages, like Catalonia in Spain.
And some countries with the same language, like french in Belgium.
In the first case I would like to use /es-es/ or /es/es/ and /es/ca/
In the second I would use /fr/fr/ and /be/fr/.
