Background of the issue:
I am trying to update the Spanish version of the website by changing text in a module. After saving and exiting the website builder, I found the Spanish website displaying in English. The issue can be seen at: hidden link

Symptoms:
The Spanish version of the website is displaying in English, except for the navigation menu which remains in Spanish.

Questions:
Why is the Spanish version of the website displaying in English?
How can I ensure the Spanish version updates correctly after editing?

Hi,

I can see that some parts of the Spanish homepage are in English.

1. Have you translated the Spanish home page in the same way as with the other languages?

When working with WPML and Divi, it is important to follow our guide.
https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/divi-builder/

2. Are you following this guide?

3. Are you using WPML's Advanced Translation Editor to translate the page or creating a different design for each language?

4. Please go to WPML -> Languages -> Language filtering for AJAX operations and enable the option "Store a language cookie to support language filtering for AJAX"
Does this solve the problem?

Important note: You are using the beta versions of our plugins, which are not recommended on the production site. The beta versions have not yet been fully tested. It is only recommended to use beta versions on development or testing sites.

Regards,
Itamar.

Hello,

We've been using WPML for about 3 years now and this page has been translated to Spanish 3 years ago. I am not new to DIVI or WPML.

There is nothing in Spanish except for the navigation menu which is a big issue.

This morning, I manually updated some text directly onto the Spanish website which is completely normal and as soon as I saved it, the website turned into an English version.

Now we have spent a lot of man hours manually correcting WPML translations in the Spanish website so I am not going to click on the translator again.

Please let me know why is going on.

/es/ should not appear in English.

Looking forward to your reply,
Milena

Hi, Milena.

You wrote: "We've been using WPML for about 3 years now and this page has been translated to Spanish 3 years ago. I am not new to DIVI or WPML."

I'm sorry you felt I was underestimating your professional experience. Please understand that I do not know how experienced you are, and I must ask those questions. My goal is to help you.

You wrote: "This morning, I manually updated some text directly onto the Spanish website which is completely normal..."

If you originally translated the page with WPML's Advanced Translation Editor, this is not normal and can cause problems like the one you experienced. You must continue to correct the translation with WPML's Translation Editor.

Can you please refer to questions 3 and 4 from my previous reply?

If you need further help with this, please share the access details for your site with me. I'm enabling a private message for the following reply.

Hi, and thanks for the access details.
Also, thanks for trying my suggestions.

I delivered the translation of the homepage in Spanish, but unfortunately, it didn't help. Please see the attached screenshot rede-es.jpg.

By the way, I do see sections in Spanish on the Spanish homepage. Please see the attached screenshot es-posts.jpg.

You wrote: "However, I replaced a picture in one of the modules, saved it and exited DIVI, the website went to English even though the permalink ended in /es/"

To communicate this issue to our second-tier supporters, I need to know the following, please: Did you only edit the Spanish page with Divi and replace an image there?
Do you only need that image replaced in Spanish?

Thanks,
Itamar.

Did you only edit the Spanish page with Divi and replace an image there?
I did, I only edited the Spanish homepage with Divi to replace the image there.

Do you only need that image replaced in Spanish?
I need that particular image replaced in all languages. However, sometimes we have different images for each language hence I go into each language to replace the image.

By the way, I do see sections in Spanish on the Spanish homepage. Please see the attached screenshot es-posts.jpg.
I also see it but this is not normal.

It is not normal that after my webmaster resets the website, things go back to normal but as soon as I replace text or an image, save and exit DIVI, the Spanish website turns into English content (half the page). It never did that before.

Thank you for your help, please let me know what the next steps are.

Hi, Milena.

Our second-tier supporter confirmed that mixing translation methods, as you did, can cause the problems you are facing. If you need to replace the image, use the Media translation add-on. You can read about it here.

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/

I know you said it used to work in the past. I'm unsure how it worked, but it is not the recommended process.

When we use the Advanced Translation Editor to translate the page, we can see missing text for translation. Our second-tier supporter instructed me to delete the translated Spanish page and send it for translation again only with the Advanced Translation Editor. We aim to check if any particular Divi modules are not getting translated.

Do you have a staging site (a copy of your site on the same server) where I can make this test without breaking anything on your live site?

You wrote that your webmaster restored the website from the backup on November 11t.

So, alternatively to sharing access to a staging site, can you provide us with the backup of your site when things used to work?

Hello,

The issue is that your translator doesn't translate properly so we always need to go into each page and fix the text. The Dutch translatiion is always a mess. The Spanish translation tenses are wrong, the German language has its own issues too etc.

We cannot rely on your translations. This is not only about changing a picture, it's about fixing the translated texts.

Are you saying that we cannot edit translated texts on DIVI anymore?

Hi,

Thanks for adding details about your case.

We are here to help with any WPML issue. If translations are a mess, tenses are wrong, or there are any other problems with the translation, we will work with you to fix those problems. For this, we need clear steps on how you translated the page and how to see the problem.

You asked: "Are you saying that we cannot edit translated texts on DIVI anymore?"

If you want to edit the translations using the Divi builder, follow the method explained in the following guide.

https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-different-translation-editors-for-different-pages/

However, you must know that this method should be applied from the beginning of the translation. Maybe you started with this method, and later, maybe by mistake, you changed it to the Advanced Translation Editor.

At this point, when you have already edited the translations with the Advanced Translation Editor, you can try to switch to the WordPress editor and check if it helps in your case. Please see the attached screenshot. The proof that it helps will be if the translation is not lost. Nevertheless, I can't guarantee this. Please note that translation shows the pencil icon before you switch the mode. And in any case, take a backup of your site before you try it.

**** Important! Please make a full site backup (files and DB) before you proceed with those steps****

Regards,
Itamar.

Ok, how can I fix this issue now.

I tried to run the English page through the Spanish WPML translator and it didn't work.

To be honest I am a loss here. I am not following.

Could you please give me a step-by-step solution to the problem I have for this particular page? I really need to fix it before Christmas please.

Hi,

For your information, I see that the Spanish page is currently OK and showing in Spanish. Please see the attached screenshot es-home-ok.jpg.

The following are the detailed steps for switching to the WordPress editor and seeing if the translation made with the Divi editor is working. (When I edit the Spanish page with Divi, I see it is in Spanish.)

1. Take a backup of your site in case something goes wrong.

2. Go to WPML -> Translation Management -> Translation Jobs (tab). It is here:
hidden link

3. Search for the page with the title "Home" from English » Spanish and delete it. Please see the attached screenshot delete-es-job.jpg.

4. Edit the homepage in English. It is here: hidden link

5. Switch the Translate Everything from "WPML Translate Editor" to "WordPress Editor". Please see the attached screenshot switch-to-wp-editor.jpg.

6. In the pop-up window, confirm that the change is only for this page and not all the pages.

7. Next to the Spanish language, you should see the plugs icon. Click it to edit the Spanish translation.

8. Once you are on the Spanish translation, click the Update button.

9. Clear any caching on your site.

10. Check if it helps.

**** Important! Please make a full site backup (files and DB) before you proceed with those steps****

If it does not help, please allow me to take a copy of your site for further investigation. I must install a plugin like Duplicator or All In One Migration for this. Please let me know if you agree.
