i have a page with Custom Field "fave_type" (english value is "for-sale", spanish "a-vender" etc) this is slugs of a custom term type (they are already translated).

Can the value of Custom Fields ("fave_type") be autotranslated while i update only MAIN page languages?

Or just explane what exactly happens with values when i set it to "Copy" in wpml setting?
Its just copy the value to custom field for another language?

May be if i rename those slugs like for-sale-es for-sale-fr it can be autotranslated by default?
What is the best way to get it done if this is possible?

Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

First, you need to make sure you are using Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual (ACFML) plugin which is needed for ACF to work correctly with WPML.

If you are using Translate everything mode and have set mentioned subfields to Translate, when you update the default language page, page content including fields set to translate will be automatically translated.

As for COPY, yes it copies the same value to other languages.

As for slugs, if you wish to use specific translations you can add those words to the glossary so it uses your suggested translation.

I suggest checking the next docs which have more details information about mentioned:

- https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-custom-fields/
- https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/recommended-custom-fields-translation-preferences-for-acf-and-wpml/
- https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/
- https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/how-to-create-and-manage-glossary-entries/

Let us know how it goes and if any related doubts or questions.

Regards,
Drazen

Thak you! But why "First, you need to make sure you are using Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual (ACFML) plugin which is needed for ACF to work correctly with WPML."

If i dont use the ACF for this exact field is it still need to use ACFML?

So what is the way to translate those fields? Because i dont understand, is autotranslate will work with ACF only? To many links get me confuse....

Can you give me the one good clear answer please?

What to do to automaticaly translate the custom term fields no ACF related?

To be more specific i uploaded an example of those fields, or may be i need/can use some faction/filter of wordpress/wpml to update those fields automaticaly when original language is updated?

Thank you!

Hi,

Automatic translation will translate everything that appears in translation editor, as simple as that. It does not matter whether this is custom field coming from a theme, user-defined custom field, Gutenberg block or any other type of the content.

However according to your screenshots, you are using classic translation editor. The only option where automatic translation would work is if you have the following activated https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/#translating-your-whole-site-automatically

Also from what I see in your screenshot, some of these may not be translated as expected (words with hypens and similar), translation editor may simply copy them as how it will be translated depends upon the translation engine used https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/how-to-change-automatic-translation-engines/

In such cases, I can advise you to use https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/how-to-create-and-manage-glossary-entries/ so that, in case you switch to automatic translation, these are not automatically translated improperly which may break your site functionality ( for example if the custom field requires specific translation, in case the automatic translation is something else which is expected by your theme, for example fave-status as you have it or similar).

Bruno Kos
