Hello,
I am looking to take a website that has multiple cities and use your plugin. What is the best way to implement this? I want to use a dropdown menu, but I don’t see it as an option in your documentation.
Our plugin isn’t used to create dropdowns, it is used to translate them.
Maybe you want to take a look at toolset: http://toolset.com/
There are demos available at http://discover-wp.com/ that use Toolset + WPML to build sites.
Hi ! Does an “open source” or “non-profit” license exists for WPML ? (We use a paid version on http://www.museomix.org, annual non-profit hackathon in Museums).
Thanks !
Hello,
I am afraid we have stopped supporting non-profits for now. We continue to support the existing ones in our system but we cannot take new ones. You are welcome to buy WPML and try it for 30 days. If it does not suit your needs we will refund you https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/.
Good morning, a couple of days ago I bought by mistake the version of $ 29 instead of the one from 79. Is it possible for me to upgrade by paying the difference and without “burning” the $ 29 I have already spent?
Thank you
When I purchase the package of 79 dollars and I use for a specific websiteadres. What happens when that websiteadres for example after 6 months is clossed? Can I tansfer it onto another webadres and still use it?
And also can I use one account for multiple totally sepparate webadresses?
When I logged in to my account today, I got the message that the account was expired, and I had to buy a whole new product. What about the renewal? Why isn’t that an option? I haven’t gotten any email that the account would expire.
Hello, this is Agnes Bury. We checked our records and turns out that indeed we didn’t send you any reminders so we have just extended your WPML subscription until June 23, 2018 so that you can upgrade using the discount price.
Thank you! That was good news! I checked my email and actually I havent gotten any emails from you since September 2017 even though my settings are all set (not even in the trash folder). I updated the settings now just in case that was the problem. 🙂
Hello,
we are compatible with this theme and it has been tested by our Compatibility Team which means that you should be able to translate every feature of that theme: https://wpml.org/theme/newspaper/
It’s not that I want to translate the AMP feature of the theme. The feature will add /amp to every link so this may affect the language links created by WPML. Also, AMP will remove all unnecessary javascript, css and html, and thus this may affect the outcome of WPML as well.
Thanks for more details. From what I learned from our Compatibility Team they have plans to test this plugin with WPML: https://ampforwp.com/wpml-for-amp/
We attended WordCamp Europe a few days ago and there was a big presentation by Google folks about the AMP project so we realize that’s important.
Let me ask again if our Compatibility Team tested the AMP feature of your theme.
ok, so Compatibility Team confirms that as long as Newspaper is compatible with WPML, so it should be working fine with the AMP feature. Even if there are any issues, it should be fixed.
Wanted to know if the plugin is compatible with the custom developed website. Also since there are multiple products, features, and pages, we wanted to first test the plugin for a period of around 45 days on a temporary environment to ensure that it works smoothly get necessary approvals from concerned parties, before making the final purchase.
Also if we buy the plugin and then, the first host it on a temporary environment, update entire languages on the site and then switch to the live domain, will this approach works?
Please let us know how can we do this. Awaiting positive reply at the earliest.
“Also if we buy the plugin and then, the first host it on a temporary environment, update entire languages on the site and then switch to the live domain, will this approach works?”
Sure, many of our customers do so but they are using different methods (one is using the Duplicator plugin).

Hello Obalit,
I consulted your case with our WPML developers and here’s what they would advise:
1. Reliable hosting. You should preferably not use a shared hosting plan but a dedicated solution.
Consider one of our parters: https://wpml.org/hosting-partner/
2. Use caching plugins throughout your website.
3. You should preferably not use WooCommerce.
4. We have found that sites which have English as default language work faster, since plugin/theme authors register strings in English inside their code.
The truth is that right now, we can’t promise to you that you site won’t be slower by using WPML. What we can promise is that we can extensively look into it once you build and share with us it in order to improve your site performance. This is what we’ve been doing with sites of our customers who find performance an issue.
I want to translate this website from English to Japanese and have it display in that language by default. I don’t want to have to manually translate it but I will probably need to edit the translation manually if possible. Can your plugin help me and which package do I need?
I would like to translate a website say from English to French. But the translation exercise can take weeks to complete. At the meantime I do not want to publish a half-completed French site, nor allow web crawler to index the half-completed French site. Is it possible to only publish (i.e. go ‘live’) the French site only after the whole site is fully translated?
Hello John,
Yes you can choose to leave the language hidden until it has been completed fully and then publish it.
Let me know if you have any further question.
I am building a bilingual website with an Avada theme, and want to use WPML for translation.
Which version do I need (CMS or BLOG), considering I need (from your doc):
“A recent version of WPML (version 3.7 or above), including the String Translation, Translation Management and Media translation add-ons.”
Avada is a good choice since we are compatible with it and many WPML users use Avada. You need the CMS version.
Since we are about to switch to a new subscription model, depending on when you will be purchasing WPML (now or after the switch), you might need the Standard or Agency subscription:
Hola!
Me gustaría saber algo.
We know, that at some point you were offering free subscriptions to NGOs and similar organizations. We heard a lot of good things about your plugin for WordPress, and we are interested in using it on our website. Could you please, let us know, whether it is still possible to get a free subscription as an NGO? We would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Hello Maksim,
thank you very much for your kind words. Unfortunately, we no longer have this offer. WPML package includes support help and that’s why it giving away WPML for free wasn’t completely costless for us. Now NGOs need to buy WPML as any other users. By the way, it’s the last chance to buy WPML at a lower price: https://wpml.org/2018/04/lifetime-plan-going-away-favor-annual-renewals/

Hello Mourad,
by “app” do you mean your website? WPML is a WordPress plugin for making your websites multilingual. It means that it allows you to create websites in more than one language. In other words WPML is not used for translating website from one language to another but to publish the content in your website in two or more languages.
WPML has an option (it’s disabled by default but you can enable it in WPML settings) to detect the user’s language based on which language he/she has set in his/her browser.
Hello,

Hello Camylla,
if your goal is to only translate your current WooCommerce-based site, you don’t need WPML. Use the LocoTranslate plugin (it’s free). You will need WPML to have your store in more than one language and in this case you the Blog version wont suffice, you need the Multilingual CMS version.

Hello,
Can I use the following permalink structure: /%postname%/
?
I’m using Yoast and its function to remove category base in URL (https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-remove-the-categories-prefix/). Will WPML work with this configuration?
Thank you and regards,
ExRay
You can use “/%postname%/” as permalink structure with no problems.
Removing the category base may be a bit more tricky.
I’ve heard more success with https://wordpress.org/plugins/no-category-base-wpml/
I’ve got a license purchased back in 2014, I need to renew it, Do I need to purchase de full $79 or the year renovation fee? $39
Hello Rafael,
Since your subscription has expired you will need to buy a new one at full price. The 50% discount is available while it is active only.

* the MEDIA TRANSLATION addon – does it have an additional cost ?
* does the MULTILINGUAL BLOG license include addons ?
Hello Gabe,
The Media Translation add-on is included in the CMS version, which costs 79$ (50$ more)
The Blog version includes WPML All Import and ACFML

Hello Raj,
if you have some programming skills, you can make WPML compatible with the custom developed website the same way our Compatibility Team does:

Our refund policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days:

Hello Lucie,
WPML itself doesn’t translate automatically and you need to insert your translations manually. If you are interested in machine translations you can consider our band new translation editor explained here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/
Another option is to send your posts/pages to one of the professional translation services that are integrated with WPML.

Do you have Tibetan as part of the translation language plugin?
Hello Dharma,
here’s the list of the default languages:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/pre-configured-languages/
As you can see, Tibetan is not included but you can add any other language in WPML settings and this page and video explain how:
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/editing-wpmls-languages-table/
Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically.
Hi,
How can we make a language menu just like yours in the header of wpml.org?
Meaning…only to see the language flag and the width of the dropdown box not to be larger than the width of the flags
Thanks
Hi, You customize the appearance of your language switcher by using some CSS.

Hello!
We are considering WPML to help with our site. We need to accomodate simplified Chinese.
A few questions:
1: How much is it to translate the pages?
2: We add content regularly. What is the turnaround for translation? Do you offer an automated service for quick updates?
3: Do you provide translated copy for approval before you load to the site to make sure it’s conversational? An example is the woman’s name “Dawn.” We have had some services translate that to “early morning” instead of the proper name.
Thank you!

Hi
I may opt for Lifetime license later. However right now I will buy 79 USD license.
After 2-3 months what is the procedure and charges to upgrade from 79 USD license to Lifetime license.
Reply awaited
Thanks

I do agree with you that near future WPML might close 199 USD lifetime Plan. However just after one week of trial 79 USD package and I assume 199 USD is better for me. In that case. Will my package be changed to 199 by only paying balance/remainder amount?

Yes, if you manage to upgrade before our switch (it is planned for upcoming week). So if you are interested in the Lifetime version, better to buy it now.
