  5. Hello,

I hope you don’t mind answering the following questions:

    1. Is it possible to configure auto-translation so that certain words or phrases always get translated the same way? For example, can “car” be set to always translate to “wagen” for German and “auto” for French?

    2. We run WooCommerce and have a block of content that is the same across ALL product pages. Will this only get translated once or will credits be used for every page that gets translated?

    3. What happens if some pages or strings are already translated by a human and we run auto-translation? Will existing translations skipped and thus remain unchanged or will auto-translation write over them?

    4. Let’s assume a WooCommerce product. When this gets translated into six other languages, does WPML essentially create six new products (entries) in the database or does it add custom fields with the translated texts in the same database entry?

    Thank you!

    • Hello,
      1. Yes, we provide the so-called Glossary feature.
      2. It will be translated just once.
      3. Already translated won’t be overridden with automatic translations.
      4. It creates 6 new products in the database, each for a language.

  6. We would like to use WPML plugin for various sites (department sites or other offices sites) that we develop within our organization (probably in multisite WordPress format). We wonder if you have a discounted or free academic license or whether we can make a lifetime purchase for such a special case.

  7. hello ,

If I buy the Multilingual Agency, will the plugins continue to work after a year without paying again?
And do you pay again just for continued technical support ?
If I pay the payment after one year has passed, will the translation service continue on my site?

    Best regards

    • Hello, if you don’t renew your WPML subscription, WPML plugins will still work, you will keep your existing translations (they are saved in your WordPress database) and you can continue translating your site but you won’t receive WPML updates and you won’t be able to open new tickets on our support forum.

  8. Hi there,

I’m interested in WPML, however I’m wondering about how much the storage usage of the site increases by.
For example, if I translate the whole site to another language, does that almost double the original storage used by the website due to creating new copies of each page? Does it actually only increase minimally? How does it work?

    Thanks

    • Yes, you can expect your database size to be doubled for your pages and posts because WPML creates a new post/page for each language you translate to. Everything else (the content of your plugins, themes, images, etc won’t be doubled).

  9. hello ,

If I buy the Multilingual Agency, can I add new site to translate after a year without paying again?

    Best regards

    • No, you cannot because to complete the configuration process of a new site you need to provide a new registration key and you cannot generate a new key if you don’t have an active subscription.

  10. Hi Mercedes,

Yes, I just found an email sent back in February about the renewal but unfortunately, I had some personal issues and was stuck in Nepal during their protests and couldn’t focus on emails.

Is there any way I can get back my discount?

    Regards,

    Ahmed Salama

  11. Hello,

We would like to turn on “Translate Everything” so that new content that we add to the website gets automatically translated into the languages that we specify. However, we would like to exclude certain WooCommerce products from getting auto-translated. Is there a way to do this? E.g exclude a category, exclude products with a certain product tag or products with a certain custom field value?

    • Hello George,
as soon as the Translate Everything option is turned on, you cannot exclude individual products from automatic translation, but you can always edit the automatic translations. Another option is to use keep the Translate Everything off and to apply automatic translation in bulk for selected products.

  12. Hello,

The licence is linked to the domain name ? If I need to close my site and open a new one in a new domain I have to pay a new one?

    Thanks.

    • You don’t need to pay again. You can register your first site as a development site (you get extra key slots for development/staging sites) or you can deregister your existing domain and generate a new key for the new site.

  13. Hi,
I wanted to ask, if is possible to use WPML auto language switch by URL in our specific situation.

We have a sites, same names on several top-level language domains, like example.it, example.co.uk, example.de, …

Now we would like to use one WP installation for all blogs of the pages under the ‘/blog’ path, i.e. example.de/blog, example.it/blog, example.co.uk/blog…, where the top level domain would define the language, but the blog itself is nested under the ‘/blog’ path.

On the domains example.it etc, there is running other application, not WP, just /blog will be the localized WP blog.

Configuration of the servers this way is not problem for us, the problem is if WPML could be set up so it will recognize the name by the domain name but will run in nested path.

    Thank you, Lukas

  14. Hello support team! I’m looking to get the WPML CMS for my client’s site we’re building. I had a couple of questions before we purchase:

    1) If I buy the license for the client, can they renew it on their own next year. Or should they make the purchase and then send us the information.

    2) Can we have the plugin translate the site to Spanish, but be able to modify the text? And is there a fee for that? Or can we add our own translation? At this time, were only looking to translate to Spanish.

    Thank you!

  15. Hello,

I have one question regarding WPML and LearnDash. I read your documentation about the integration, but I’m still confused if it answers at what I want to achieve.

So, I want a website with 2 languages French (original) and English (translation). I’m selling courses. I want to sell them in the two languages, but I don’t want that french people automatically access to the english courses, and vice versa.

I would like that people who buy french courses to only see their french courses when they display the french version of the site. If the same people want to buy an english course, I want them to see only the english course when they display the english version of the site.

Is that possible with WPML by creating a course for each language perhaps ?

And in the same logic, if I create 6 french courses and 3 english courses, is there a way with WPML to have “conditional” menu for each language ? And in that way to redirect and show only what is available in the choosen language ?

I hope I’m clear enough. I’m trying to figure now this kind of things as I’m rebuilding my website and I want to know if I need other plugins for this conditional logic.

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards,
    Pierre

    • Hello Pierre,
thank you for your interest in WPML. Before I answer your questions let me share some info on how WPML works so that it is easier to you to understand your options.
When you set up WPML, by default your users won’t be automatically redirected to language A or B after typing in the domain name into their browser. They need to use the languages switcher (that thing that you usually see at the top right corner of your site, which often contains flags) to switch to the other version of your site. Displaying the language switcher is optional and you can use automatic redirections instead (to be enabled in WPML settings).
Normally, when you translate your courses (products, pages, posts etc) you create an equivalent for it but in another language. So it one-to-one pair. If you do so, for each of your courses that is translated this way you will see the language switcher allowing the user to see the same course in a different language. But WPML also allows you to create your courses (products, posts, pages, etc) without providing the equivalent in the other language and for such cases, you won’t see the language switcher. This way you can create x courses in language A and create y different courses in language B without cross-linking them. Perhaps is that what you need. If that’s the case, don’t translate your courses by clicking on the + icon for another language but instead switch to the other language on WordPress your backend and add the courses again as new ones.
And yes, you can provide two different menus for your languages, WPML allows that too. Simply don’t synchronize your menu.

  16. Thank you Agnes for your acute and quick reply !

The not-synchronizing part was exactly what I needed to know for my use case ! Perfect !! It will suit exactly my need !

    • Hello Ahmet,
This depends on the subscription type you buy:
The Blog version allows you to register 1 site
      The CMS, 3.
      The Agency, unlimited

  17. Hello,

I want to renew my license but I only have the option to buy a new license. Why is that? Can you help me with the renewal of my old license? I don’t want to install my WPML plugins again and lose all my translations and preferences.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Best,
    Lotte

    • Hello Lotte,
I see your subscription expired in December last year. Yes, you will need to buy a new subscription. If WPML is already working on your site you don’t need to install it again. After you re-purchase and your site gets re-registered you will start receiving updates automatically again.
You will not lose any of the translated content.

      Kind regards

  18. Hi,

We are currently migrating our on-premise WordPress installation to a hosted solution. Rather than migrate everything as-is, we are using this as an opportunity to clean-up. One plugin that we definitely want to preserve is WPML. 🙂

My problem is that the people involved with our original website are not available. I’d like some guidance if I should simply open a new account or if someone on your end can confirm if we are already a customer.

    Thanks,
    Derek

  19. Hi!

It came to my attention that my account has been cancelled due to the unpaid renewal invoice of our license, something that unfortunately slipped our attention, but we would like to continue using your service with our clients’ websites. Can you please let me know if it is possible to reissue the invoice #10976195, dated April 7, 2022, so I could proceed with the immediate payment?

    Kind regards,
    Thanasis

    • Hello, your WPML subscription expired back in April and you would need to buy it again. To use the same email and account, simply log into your wwpml.org account before adding your package to the basket again.

  20. Hi,
do you offer a discount for educational and non-profit customers?
I have foundations and primary schools as my customers and would like to know if they have to pay the $99 / year license.

    Thanks,
    Niek.

  21. Hello – we are a small non-profit in Quebec Canada and interested in using your plugin pro to automatically translate our website from English to Canadian French (Quebecois). We would want to use DeepL to do the automatic translation. Can you tell me if you use international French only in your translations?
I also have seen you product priced in Euros and (I assume US) Dollars. I would assume that you would charge us in US dollars and can you confirm the initial purchase price and the yearly renewal fee.

    Thanks – Daniel

    • Hello Daniel,
DeepL is supported in our automatic translation service, however, I don’t think they include Canadian French as a language variant. See here the list of supported languages for automatic translation https://ate.wpml.org/mt_langs
Having said this, you are welcome to add the language to your site when you install WPML and maybe then run it through DeepL. You can then apply the edits through our Review feature (you can do this or hire a professional reviewer) https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/how-to-review-automatic-translations-on-your-site/
But maybe this is too much volume of work?
All our prices are expressed in USD only. This is the currency we use on all transactions.
For automatic translation you will need the CMS version, with an initial fee of 99$ and a renewal of 74$/year.
Note this includes 90,000 credits for automatic translation but if you need to translate more content, you will need to pay a separate fee.
Let me know of any further questions

  22. Hello,

how I can upgrade account type from Multilingual Blog to Multilingual CMS?
My order ID: 11139113 from May 3, 2022.

    Thanks,
    Zeljko

    • Hello,
I can see that you have the “End user” type of subscription which means your subscription got transferred from someone else in the past and I need to check your options with our admin. In the meantime, you can do the following: please log into your WPML account and first check if you can see the upgrade option there. If you see it, you can upgrade immediately by following the link we provide. This is what our regular Blog package users see but your case might be different because you have the above-mentioned “End user” subscription. If you cannot see any option to upgrade your subscription, please do the following: when being logged in (it is important to stay logged in) go to the https://wpml.org/purchase/ page and put the CMS package into your basket. Your price should be lower than the regular price of the CMS package (which is $99). Or you can wait for my reply, I’m gonna update you soon.
