  1. Hi there,

My theme has a few custom page templates where text is written in HTML. Does WPML let me enter translations for these areas?

    Example:

    Hello
More text I would like to translate

    • Hmm, this form auto-formatted my html, but the “hello” text is an H1, and the “more text…” is inside a P tag. Just wondering if I can set translations up for static HTML.

      Thanks.

      • there should be
        echo ‘<h1>’ . __( ‘Blog Options’, ‘my-text-domain’ ) . ‘</h1>’;

something like this. And the ‘my-text-domain’ should be defined as well. Please see my previous reply.

    • Hey Keith,
you mean the strings are hardcoded in your php files? If so, they can be translated as well but please make sure that the so called gettext functions were used:
      __( ‘First Name’, ‘theme_text_domain’ );
      __( ‘NEW TITLE COPY’,’text_domain’ );
      _e( ‘Your Ad here’, ‘my-text-domain’ )
so the strings were wrapped using the double underscore or _e functions and the like.

If there string were coded like this, they will all appear in the String translation panel (you will need to install the ‘WPML String Translation plugin’ – you will find it in your WPML account under Downloads, but you need to purchase the CMS or Lifetime subscription)

  2. Hi, I have a website that I am designing, and I want to get to a wider audience, your product comes highly recommended by the theme suppliers.

Does your plugin give users a choice to view the site in a different language that is created by your plugin, or do we have to supply the translation

If I have the site is available in Spanish, will it show in Spanish if the viewers IP address is in Spain, and what is the quality of the translation, as my experience is that its translates by word and not grammar, so true meaning will not always be correct translation

    Regards

    David

    • Hi David,
WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically. You provide the translations or you can use our ICanLocalize service (with professional translators) – it is integrated with WPML but paid. Soon we will have more external translation companies cooperating with us. Translations made by humans are the only acceptable and of course most appreciated translations by search engines like Google.

  3. Hi,

    Just 2 pre-sales questions before i buy:

1- About SEO plugins for WordPress compatible with WPML, are both the “All in One SEO” and also the “SEO by Yoast” both compatible with WPML? What SEO plugin does your team recommends to use with WPML?

2- About Cache plugins is WPML compatible with both the “W3 Total Cache” and “WP Super Cache”?

    Thanks

    Thanks

  4. Hi,

I am bulding a website to one of our customers, now we want to translate this website
    plbinsurance.ca
    We are using gantry framework
mostly we want to translate wedges and plugins like text wedges and RokSprocket

    Its compatible with your software

    Thanks

    • Hi Gideon,
no WPML is not compatible with the RokSprocket, I mean it wasn’t tested by our compatibility team.

Yes, you will be able to translate widgets with WPML.

  5. hello,

i am a web designer/ developer that customizes themes. if i buy the highest package does that mean i can use it across multiple clients?

    • Hi Kevin, yes, it works exactly like you expect: you need to buy only one license and you can use it for all the sites of all of your customers.

  6. Hi – We are based in Wales (UK) – does your plugin support Welsh as a language?

    We use the following plugins:

    Yoast SEO
    GalleryBank (developer edition)
    TheEventsCalendar
    WP Google Maps

Do you support full translation of these plugins?

    Thanks

    Nicola

    • Hi Nicola,

Thank you for your interest in WPML and your questions.
First thing first WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically. You insert the translations yourself or you can send it to our ICanLocalize service (it is integrated with WPML but paid). But yes, we do support the Welsh as a language.

Yoast SEO – yes WPML is compatible (we use it yourselves)
The other plugins – they weren’t tested by our WPML compatibility Team.

  7. Hello, we bought wpml plugin yesterday, but still not receive the account and download information. Order 570296. paid via paypal. Please help.
    Regards Axel.

  8. Hi i´ve just finished my english website and need it translating to Welsh. I use the parasponsive wordpress theme. Its a very simple website, no shop, just a 1 page website. But i do need to translate everything including changing the logo and layerslider. Can WPML do this? And do i need the expensive miltilingual CMS or can i get away with the Blog version???

  9. Hi,

Let’s say I buy the Multilingual CMS yearly subscription ($79). Is there an official upgrade path should I decide to buy later the lifetime license? Should I have to pay the full lifetime license, or just the difference?

    Thanks in advance
    José

    • Hi José, in this case you only pay the different but you need to upgrade before your license (expires within 30 days). We will send you an automatic notifications 30 days before.

  10. Hi,

Checking the minimum requirements for WPML I noticed that the permalink setting we are using is not one of the recommended ones. We are using the Post Name as permalink setting (http://www.site.com/sample-post/).
What are the risks in keeping the post name as the setting for permalinks? What would be best approach if we want to keep the permalink structure as it is?
    Thank you,
    Marcos

    • Hi, thanks for your questions.
You can use the post-name permalink structure as well. But please be careful and don’t give your page and post exactly the same name. This would cause some problems. For other cases it should work fine.

  11. Hi,

Some of the text are hardcoded on my page template (complex layout). If I start using wpml, can i set different template for each langugage?

    • Hi Mats, if the texts were coded using the getttext function (e.g. __( or _e)) they would be recognized by our ‘String translation’ module and you will be able to translate them as well.

  12. I seem to have a problem with downloading the new update, it gives me an error :The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

But we have a licence given to us by our external developers
but it doesn’t give us the chance to enter it . They said it might be a problem with the renewing of licence but so far they have renewed it so can you help me ?

    Thank you

    • Yes, I confirm we have such cases. You can try to update plugins manually, but if this doesn’t help you will need to raise your issue in our support forum. For this you will need a valid WPML subscription.

  13. Hi,

We currently have 6 stand-alone websites in 4 different languages and would like to condense and consolidate them as much as possible. Have you got a demo we could try before we make the commitment?

    Thanks

  14. How long has this been out? I asked about it a couple years ago and was told it was coming but never received notification that it was available.

    • I was referring to WooCommerce Gateways Country Limiter. Also, can I use the same payment gateway with different accounts? For instance, we use Authorize.net for US and Canada, however each has a separate account. Can we change these settings for authorize.net for each country?

      • Hi April, let me consult your case with our WooCommerce Multilingual plugin developers. I will keep you posted.

    • The Gateways Country Limiter wasn’t tested for WPML compatibility by our WPML compatibility Team so we are not sure if it is fully compatible. About second question. Our WooCOmmerce devs say that this is not related to languages. This is a question if this plugin allows to use different accounts.

  15. Hi,

I am interested using WPML for language translation. Can you please send me the answers of following questions?

    Theme:
    http://themeforest.net/item/123garden-ecommerce-corporate-theme/full_screen_preview/9828955

    Questions:
1 What would it take to integrate with the theme above?
    2. Which plug-in do we need to buy?
    3. Can it be done as soon as the theme is set up?
    4. how is content effected? what language is main? in what format we do add content?
    5. Will it effect SEO? How about the Yoast Plug-in
    6. How would it effect shopping cart product descriptions, etc… as well as SEO for product landing pages?

    Languages:
    English
    Spanish
    Russian
    Portuguese

    • Hi,

      1. Nothing. If a theme is WPML compatible, you just install and active WPML and you just install and activate your theme.
But please note that this theme is marked as WPML compatible in the link you shared but wasn’t tested by our compatibility theme.

      2. The CMS or the Lifetime subscription

      3. Yes, you can install WPML later, once you are set up with your theme.

      4. You set up the primary language in WPML settings (the WPML installation guide will ask you about it, its easy)

      5. WPML is fully compatible with Yoast Plugin, we use it ourselves here, at wpml.org

      6. If you use the WooCommerce plugin for handling eCommerce, you will need this plugin:
      https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-multilingual/

It was made by our team and allow you to make your shops multilingual as well

WPML support all the languages you listed but please note that WPML doesn’t translate the contents automatically.

  16. I purchased WPML this morning at 11:00 am. It’s now nearly 5 hours later and I have yet to receive the login details to actually download WPML.

On a side note, I find it somewhat frustrating that I have to resolve this issue on a public forum. You can contact me at the email used for this contact and I will forward the details to you.

  17. Hi, I bought the WPML for multiple language blog. I use worldpress.com, simple free theme “Delicacy” but I dont see how I can install it to make it work. I found on one forum that worldpress.com doesnt support plugins – is that true?

  18. Hi

When i read the description of new features in the 3.2 version, what i understand is that now, even website who were having incompatiblity problems due to the way they were built could have all their strings (menu, content etc.) translatable after i “register” their strings via a new options, am i right or incompatible themes will continue to be incompatible?

When will the 3.2 final version will be released?

    Thanks

    • Hi,

we are not 100% sure if we understand you question, but we think you are referring to the Package Translation feature.

Package Translation allows to translate set of options which might related to some kind of content different than the usual posts.

Two examples are Gravity Forms and Layouts.
The first one stores all forms settings in the wp_options tables.
For every form, we can allow to translate all form’s fields (e.g. labels) via string translation, thanks to the package translation feature. This is done in the Translation Editor, by groups all strings of the same form.

Layouts, even though it uses posts to define every layouts, also stores all layouts information in the options or post_meta table. And with Package Translation + String Translation, we can help translating all strings related to the same layout via the translation editor.

Currently I don’t see many cases for themes authors to make use of Package Translation, unless they provide some particular feature that is usually provided by a plugin, such sliders or similar.

For theme we already provide ways to translate all strings, as long as they use the standard getttext functions which would have to be used anyway in order to localize the theme with the standard po/mo files.
So developer doesn’t need any particular change in their code for them.
For other strings instead, they need to call our APIs, but, again, this is well documented and if the author join the Go-global program, they can get all the help they need.

      Does this help?

      • Actually i’m not a specialist so i don’t know if it helps. The translation package sounded like if i could register manually all strings from a theme.
Which means that this feature would be useless for already compatible themes but will make uncompatible theme (from premiumpress and appthemes for example, who just want to take money and don’t want to cooperate with WPML team to change that despite the fact that dozens of persons ask them for a WPML compatibility) “compatible” via manual serch/registeration of their strings.

I’ll guess i’ll have to try when final version will be out.

  19. Hi

I asked a question few hours ago and it doesn’t appear. Is there a validation system before its displayed or is it lost?

    • Yes, you comment was waiting for moderation. We don’t work during weekends. I just answered but need to consult my answer with WPML developers.

  20. 1. Which version should I buy?
the Multilingual Blog or the Multilingual CMS

I want to show unique content according to language
    Eng – ABC
    Kor – QWE

    2. Also was wondering if the “recent posts” “recent comments” widgets
would differentiate language content as well?

  21. Hi, I was thinking of translating my website with wpml, but I read that all import has discontinued the wpml add-on.
Is there any other plugin able to bulk import all the fields? I have 700 products in an e-commerce and doing it by hand is not an alternative.
    Thanks

  22. Hi,

I contacted you via the contact form about an error in an email address when I purchased the plugin. Please can you look into this ASAP and get back to me?

    Many thanks!

    Chloë

  23. Hi,
I’m considering buying WPML for my e-commerce, but I need a tool to bulk import all translations.
You say in your website that all import is able to do it, but all import says that they have discontinued the wpml add-on.
Is there any other import plugin? May be field by field with csv import suite?
    Thanks

    • Hi Eduard,
sorry for my late reply. You post accidentally landed in Trash. Of course you can import your post from CSV but then you will need to manually match your translations (to say WPML which post is a translation for which one) so my answer is: no, you cannot import translations.

  24. Hi

I purchased WPML as my company’s expense and accountant staff asked me an exchange rate. In the order information the price is $195, in the bill from card company ¥24,637 and no rate is written. Is there any additional fees or taxes besides the price above?

    • Where are you from? If outside EU then there should be no additional charges (VAT). You should check locally the exchange rate on the date of billing and also with the card company for extra charges.

      • Thanks Agnes
I’m from Japan, and I’ve already asked the card company about it, but they received yen based billing from your company so they have no idea about the exchange rate. I’m not sure if the rate,24,637/195=126.34(¥/$), is accurate at 11th Feb 2015. It seemed a bit higher than the market even with commission fee, so I posted the question about the additional fee.

Usually when I pay in dollars, I receive dollar based receipt and the card company fix the billing in yen at the rate around the order date.
