I like what I have seen so far… I’ve got a couple questions…
1 – Do I have to set up a multisite? Or will WPML simply handle translating the pages for me?
2 – The website will be selling a selection of books in English, and a selection of books in Spanish. Will WPML differentiate which pages/products it is on?
3 – Do I need to set up Spanish versions of the English pages? Or will WPML translate on the fly?
4 – Is WPML compatible with Elementor?
5 – During checkout, will WPML translate the PayPal-based items/pages/parts as well?
Hello,
1 – no, you don’t need to set up a multisite. WPML will handle everything (it will create a kind of “virtual folders” for your languages).
2 – yes, it will, please see some sites from our showcase: https://wpml.org/showcase/
for example: https://www.bott-freres.fr/en/our-shop/ https://www.perfecthealthsupplements.com/
3 – Yes, you do need to set up a Spanish version of the English page. You can use machine translations as well but to apply them on your backend first (this video will help you understand how it works: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/ Of course, if you don’t need to translate all of your pages, that’s fine too. It’s not mandatory to have all of your pages translated.
4 – Yes, it is.
5 – It depends on what plugin you use for handling PayPal and if that plugin is compatible with WPML. WooCommerce is.
I was wondering of you can adjust the translations with the version for 1 website for 21 dollar a year? The plugin looks good, but I want to be able to adjust the translations as I please.
Hello,
by default, it’s you who provides/inserts the translations (manually). If that’s what you need, yes, feel free to start with the $21 package. In this table you will see what you can do and cannot do with this version: https://wpml.org/purchase/
But if you want to use machine translations, which you would like to adjust, then you need the CMS package because the Blog version doesn’t include our ATE editor (the editor that provides machine translations).
We are building a WooCommerce store all in English at the moment and the client is asking if it would be possible for the website to be in Spanish too – we know the answer to that is yes.
BUT they would also like to know if it is possible that people from Spanish speaking countries will see a different product images from those locations?
Hello,
WPML allows you to translate images too. If you translate your product images, the site visitors browsing the Spanish version of your site will see different product images.
Hello,
yes, it is. You can upgrade both from Blog to CMS and then from CMS to Agency package. Our system will calculate the new price accordingly to what you already paid for (the difference).
Hi, I only need to purchase $79 plan without any other subscription. Is this possible or I have to cancel yearly subscription right after the $79 plan purchase?
Hello Charilaos,
You will be able to cancel the automatic renewal payment once the purchase completes and the account is created. There is no option to cancel it BEFORE the payment is processed.
Hello. We have purchased WPML and the payment is listed as “Pending”. The card provider has not flagged this as being blocked by them. Please can we speak with someone about what might be blocking this?
Hello Jessica,
I see 2 invoices, one failed and the other pending payment. The one pending payment means we have not charged you for it. You need to log in to your account and you will find a button to pay for it. Go to your Payment history and invoices page and you will find the invoice there. Click View order and you will find the button to pay and proceed to checkout.
We’re considering buying WPML to enhance our Divi-made website. May I ask please:
1) if we activate WPML, does our published site behaviour remain identical at first or do we need to prepare a lot of things prior to activating the plugin?
2) when we enhance our site with a second language, must we insert all translations right away when activating that new language to avoid empty text boxes? Or, will/can the site use texts from the default language until a language specific text has been inserted?
Thanks Mercedes, that is helpful but the article doesn’t seem to answer my two specific questions. Could you kindly elaborate on those two specific points please?
Sorry René!
1) if we activate WPML, does our published site behaviour remain identical at first or do we need to prepare a lot of things prior to activating the plugin?
You can activate WPML and publish the translation only when it’s ready. Your site will keep working normally.
2) when we enhance our site with a second language, must we insert all translations right away when activating that new language to avoid empty text boxes? Or, will/can the site use texts from the default language until a language specific text has been inserted?
Same as above
I’m creating an updated site on a different domain and then transferring it to the original domain once it’s done and translated. Will that affect my purchase? Must I tie the WPML account to a domain and am I allowed to switch it once I move the finished site to the original domain?
Hello Davina,
You have 2 options:
Use WPML on the temporary domain without registering it.
Register the development url on your account, then remove it and register the new url when it’s ready. You can do this as much as you want as long as the subscription is active.
In both cases, the content will remain the same.
We are currently using Polylang and Smartcat for translations. Polylang does not support translation of ACF fields, so we need to move somewhere as all of our pages have ACF fields. I see the corresponding topic in your documentation, but would like to double check – will it work with Smartcat? Was it already tested by any clients?
I need to contact with WPML support regarding some issue but I don’t have login data cause WPML was set up by agency so I have their license. How can I contact with support?
Hello Marta,
I am afraid you cannot access the technical forum without an active subscription.
You are welcome to purchase here to access updates and support. https://wpml.org/purchase/
I have an educational website, where in Polish I am explaining about English grammar. So parts of the text are in Polish, and parts (examples) in English.
Now I would like to do automated translation into Spanish. But when I checked, translation engines translate everything, both Polish and English into Spanish, and that makes no sense. I need only Polish text translated.
Is it possible to disable translation of English parts of the text? Otherwise I can’t really use it…
Hello Grzegorz,
it’s possible. Please note that even if you want to use automatic translations, you need to apply them for a specific page/post. Our ATE editor allows you to do it in two ways: 1. Translate all the content of your page/post with one click (and edit specific pieces) – this way you can copy-paste the English version into your window representing your Polish translation
2. Go to each English segment and declare as complete with the current content. Then, click on the “Translate automatically” button on top of the page. It will translate only the remaining segments.
It will all become clear as soon as you see how the translation editor works. You can get a preview in this video: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/
Sounds great!
Some two years ago I bought the full version of WPML (+ extensions) and it is running on my WordPress site. I have gutenberg editor disabled.
Now when I tried to follow the instruction to automatically translate a post it doesn’t work. Only a normal view for translation shows up, there is no option for automatic translation.
Is it the problem with the old post editing capacity on my website, or the problem is that my licence expired?
That;;s all right, the problem is that I have only four tabs in my “translation management”
and in the picture in your instruction there are five tabs https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/
the fifth being “Translation Tools” that I’m missing.
Hello Kelly,
we don’t provide a free demo for WPML where you could test it with your theme and the best would be to buy WPML keeping our refund policy in mind – it allows you to test it for 30 days without any risk and use our support form during that trial.
Feel free to ask me some specific questions if needed.
I read several of these posts and still not clear on what the solution does or doesn’t do for automatic (machine) translations. I read on one of the posts that – “you still need to set-up a Spanish version…etc.” What does that mean?
I will have a website of approximately 20,000 (twenty thousand) words in English with 6-8 languages or translations under consideration. I want it translated without hiring outside translators. What does WPML do to accomplish this and how much will it cost?
Hello,
WPML doesn’t work like this: you enable the plugin and all your site becomes available in as many languages as you nee – no, that’s not how WPML work.
Here’s in a nutshell how WPML works:
1. You enable the plugins
2. You need to complete a wizard where you are selecting languages
3. You pick pages, posts etc to translate.
If you want to use our ATE editor, which provide machine translations, you need to enable that editor to and “send” each of your pages/post to translation. They will open in the ATE editor where you have an option to use machine translation in one go, which you can later on edit if needed.
This video will help you understand it better: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/
Hello,
we got this message Your account will expire on 2021-01-29 and you will no longer be able to download WPML or receive support.
Now we have a Multilingual CMS, if we wanted to purchase Multilingual Agency subscription, do we get any discount (for example as Multilingual Agency renewal)?
Thanks a lot for your reply in advance
Thank you, Agnes. We’re more than happy to pay for it.
Seeing the video, it seems we can machine translate once the plugin is installed and we determine what languages etc.
I don’t understand how far 2000 credits gets me. It’s not exactly clear. So, using my example of 20,000 words in one language before translating, what plan do I need and what it the approximate cost per Language and per annum?
If you use Azure translation, 1 credit = 1 word, and if you need to translate 20,000 words you would fall somewhere between the $7 and $12 plans. But you don’t need to use these words every month only once because the translations are saved for good.
If you use Google translation 1 word = 2 credits so you would need 40,000 credits to translate 20,000 words and so on.
And of course, we are charging you only for the words/credits you actually used. You will see a counter in your editor saying you how many credits you need for translating each of your pages and you will always know in advance.
Pardon my ignorance, but your solution, credits, and now Azure is completely new to me…
Can you be specific by Dollar amount? I have a minimum of (6) languages let’s say for the sake of argument each at 20,000 words. I import the plug-in into my English WordPress site, and choose (6) languages one at time on the dashboard.
Are you saying it’s $12.00 per language? If not, what would the total cost be based on what we plans you have?
Hopefully, that’s more clear. I just want to know the cost, not the methodology at this point.
Thank you. As long as I have you on, when looking at competing solutions the process and pricing was somewhat vague. Hence, my asking these questions. So, I appreciate it
I only have 2 more for confirmation.
1) Once my English website (of 20,000 words) and the plugin is installed, am I correct to say I simply search for the language I need through the dashboard and “presto” a new page is formed or does it automatically translated the entire site? One page at a time is fine. I just want to confirm how this works.
2) Based on what Agnes said, it would be $72.00 for (6) languages as a one time fee unless we increase sometime during the year? Or is this on a monthly basis?
Hi.
What happens if my 1 year subscription ends but I don’t extend it?
Can I use the WPML CMS after without getting updates? Or the WPML will stop working?
Dear Sirs,
Perhaps this is answered somewhere, so my apologies if that is the case. I would like to know if I get my site translated from English into Arabic, will the Arabic text display from right-to-left. Some other translation plugins cannot handle that so I am looking for one that can.

Hi.
I have already an account at deepl.com and i can use their api.
I can add mine api in you plugin and start translate or i have to go through you in order to get translations from deepl and pay more money ?
Hi, We are looking for a free trial of the plugin to see if it fits our needs.
Would like to know if WPML can fit following requirements in our WordPress website.
1] Does WPML support translation to local Indian languages? (example to Kanada, Tamil etc.)
2] Is it possible to edit the text from English to English? For eg. If some content on the website is in English but we are not happy with the content and want to rephrase it in English . Can we do it using this plugin?
3] Is there an impact on the performance of the website due to this plugin ?
4] Does the plugin work on text that is hardcoded in the code and appears on the webpage?
5] What happens when the source text itself is edited? Will the plugin pick it immediately and update the translations in other languages?
6] Internally does it work based on resource files as many other multilingual websites?

I just checked Smartcat’s site and see they feature WPML https://www.smartcat.com/integrations/. However, I did not find them on the list of our integrated translation services https://wpml.org/translation-service/page/9/?wpv_view_count=5075663. Let me double check with the integrations team and get back to you
We have a migration tool from Polylang https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/migrate-polylang-wpml/
and a bridge plugin for ACF https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/

hello Gil,
Let me reply until Agnes is back tomorrow. For 6 languages, it would be the amount Agnes explained multplied by 6. So, for 20,000 words into 6 different languages, through Azure (1 credit= 1 word), it would be 12 USD * 6

Thank you. As long as I have you on, when looking at competing solutions the process and pricing was somewhat vague. Hence, my asking these questions. So, I appreciate it

Hi Gil,
1) You can translate individual pages, postst etc, or send the jobs in bulk https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/#automatic-translation
2) Once you translate the content, it will remain on your site. You will be charged again only if you send NEW content to translate

Hello Gabor,
Yes, you can keep using WPML as it is installed on your site, without receiving updates or support.
Dear Sirs,
Perhaps this is answered somewhere, so my apologies if that is the case. I would like to know if I get my site translated from English into Arabic, will the Arabic text display from right-to-left. Some other translation plugins cannot handle that so I am looking for one that can.
Very many thanks,
Sam

Yes, it will be a one-time fee unless you want to translate something again and then, we will charge you only for what’s new.
Are the prices on your homepage in US Dollars or Hong Kong Dollars?
Hello Patrick,
All our prices are expressed in USD

Hello, we don’t provide any option to use the deepl API connected to your account at deepl.com.
Hello Ritesh,
We do not have free trials of WPML. You can try it with WPML and see how it works for you. We have a 30-day Refund policy
1) Yes, it supports all languages https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/#id1
2) Do you mean the translation? Yes, you can edit it.
3) No, there shouldn’t be https://wpml.org/faq/prevent-performance-issues-with-wpml/
4) Yes, but the string needs to be wrapped on a translatable string (gettext – see https://codex.wordpress.org/I18n_for_WordPress_Developers). E.g. __( ‘Hello, dear user!’, ‘my-text-domain’ );
After that, the client can scan the theme/plugin, then translate using String Translator https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/
5) You will need to scan the theme/plugin again, then translate using String Translator
6) Can you explain more? I am not sure I understand what you mean?
