Getting Started with TextMaster
To start translating your website using TextMaster, you need to download and install the following plugins from wpml.org:
- WPML Multilingual CMS – the core plugin
- WPML Translation Management – this plugin will allow you to connect to TextMaster
- WPML String Translation – this plugin will allow you to translate interface strings
If you do not yet have an account on the WPML site, create one simply by choosing between WPML Multilingual CMS or Multilingual CMS Lifetime plans.
Connecting your site to TextMaster
Once all required plugins are installed, you will need to provide both the API Key and API Secret. This information will allow you to connect with WPML and TextMaster.
The API Key and API Secret credentials are located in the TextMaster dashboard. After login, click the lightning icon and select API & Loop from the dropdown list. The credentials will be displayed on the left side of the screen.
If you are unable to locate the credentials in your TextMaster profile, please contact TextMaster support.
If you do not have a TextMaster account yet, you can simply create one here.
Activating and authenticating TextMaster
As soon as you have all the necessary data, log in to your WordPress dashboard and open WPML -> Translation Management. Next, switch to the Translation Services tab.
Scroll down to the Available Translation Services section, and click Activate on the right side of the TextMaster description.
Wait for the page to reload. Afterwards, you will see TextMaster at the top of the page. Please click the Authenticate button.
A popup will appear. Fill in the necessary values from the TextMaster site. When you have finished, click the Submit button.
Congratulations! Your WordPress is now connected with TextMaster, and you can start translating your website.
Sending content for translation
To start the translation process, go to WPML -> Translation Management and select the posts or pages that you want to translate by checking the corresponding checkboxes in the first column.
Next, scroll down to the Translation options section and select the languages for translation. For the next step, click the Add selected content to translation basket button.
When the page reloads, you will see a new tab at the top of the page called Translation Basket. On this tab, a list of all the items (posts, pages, and strings) and languages you have added to the basket will appear.
Here, you can verify the content you want to translate, remove posts and pages mistakenly added, and change the “Batch name”. The “Batch name” will be visible on the Translation Jobs tab and will help you find projects. When you are ready, just click the Send all items for translation button to send everything to TextMaster.
When this is done, you will see a short confirmation message at the bottom of the page.
The content has been delivered to TextMaster. Now, you need to finish the project configuration. Follow the Translation Jobs tab link from the confirmation message or click on the Translation Jobs tab at the top of the page. When you click on the Batch Name link, you will be redirected to the project page on the TextMaster website.
Here, you can see that for each target language, a separate project was created.
At this point, all projects are in the In Creation status. To start the translation process, please click on the project box. You will be redirected to the configuration screen, where you can choose the service level and preferred translator.
Choosing the Right Service Level
This level is best for most business projects, including:
- marketing transcreation for brochures
- business reports, white papers, ebooks
- advanced web content
- legal & technical documents
This level is suited for short and simple projects, including:
- simple web content
- customer service emails
- short and basic product listings
Creating a Team of Translators
When you launch a project on TextMaster, you can make the project available to all translators with the relevant languages and service level on our platform. You can then add translators whose work you appreciate to your list of favorites, called My TextMasters.
For frequent or complex projects, you can also contact our account management team who will do a casting process, which involves recruiting professional translators, testing them and building a dedicated team based on your preferences.
To edit content category and add project briefing, please click on the Edit project button.
Writing a Good Briefing
To ensure that the translator’s work meets your expectations, it is important to give them detailed instructions (briefing). A good briefing outlines the required style, keywords, industry terms, and any other specificities.
After finishing all steps, the status of your project is changed to In Progress.
Receiving completed translations
Once the project is translated and reviewed by you, its status in TextMaster is Completed. The translations are ready to be delivered to your website.
Checking for completed translations
To check for completed translations, open WPML -> Translation Management and click on Translation Jobs inside the WordPress admin.
Locate the batch you want to download, and click the Synchronize status button.
Having your completed translations delivered to your site
Depending on your configuration, translations will be delivered automatically or they can be manually fetched from your WordPress admin panel.
To check the configuration settings, go to WPML -> Translations Management and switch to the Multilingual Content Setup tab. Scroll down or click on the Translation pickup mode link below the tabs and see what option is selected.
The “Translation Service will deliver translations automatically using XML-RPC” option means that as soon as you review the translation, it will be delivered to your website automatically.
“The site will fetch translations manually” means that completed translations can be downloaded from the Translations Dashboard (WPML->Translation Management) using the Check status and get translations button at the top of the page.
Canceling translation jobs
Project under creation
You can delete projects that have not been launched yet. To do this, point to the gear icon and click on the trash icon.
When a project is deleted, you need to synchronize what appears under Translation Jobs tab in WPML by clicking on the Synchronize status button.
Next, you need to click on the Check status and get translations button which is located at the top of Translation Management page.
Once the project is launched, you can cancel it. However, you can only cancel the project if there is at least one document in a cancelable status (waiting for assignment). As soon as the document has been taken by a translator, it is no longer possible to cancel it to be fair to the translator who started working on it. If the project is canceled and marked as such, but there is a document in progress, then that document will follow its normal workflow to completion.
The fees used to launch the project will be refunded, excluding those for the un-cancelable documents, if any.
The cancellation process is the same as the deletion process, but there is a different button for this action. The Cancel button will appear when you click on the gear icon.
Depending on your Translation pickup mode configuration, the status will be synchronized either automatically or manually after you have checked for completed translations using the Check status and get translations button from the Translation Dashboard tab.
Therefore, if you have the “Translation Service will deliver translations automatically using XML-RPC” option selected, there is no need for you to do anything more at this point except wait for delivery.
If you have “The site will fetch translations manually” selected, then you will need to click on the Check status and get translations button.
As a result, WPML should remove all jobs belonging to canceled or deleted batches from the Translation Jobs tab.
Please remember that you cannot manually delete jobs from the Translation Jobs tab on your website. You must first delete or cancel the project in TextMaster, and then synchronize the batch status in WPML.
