Is it possible for me to use WPML for this kind of language switching? I know I need to type in each URL manually – I have that in Excell. 1 column for each language. Used it for hreflang. Hoping that I could use it for a frontend language selector that works cross page on individiual pages (So that a click on UK-flag doesn’t take me to UK-front page, but to the coresponding page…
As you describe it, removing WPML should be enough.
That’s why I’m afraid we can’t help you here as we don’t have the right tools for it and you need to go to our technical forum.

I am thinking about purchasing your plugin but I had a question. Is it possible to translate the meta titles and meta descriptions using your plugin? I am translating from English to Turkish and I want the meta data to show up in Google in Turkish…Is this possible?
I just wanted to clarify one thing. I have a wordpress website and the theme is woodmart. I want to translate it completely (including products). Can you tell me which package should I buy the “Multilingual Blog” or “Multilingual CMS” because the “Multilingual Blog” does not support Woocommerce site. So, I just wanted to confirm it.
My website is in English and I am translating into Turkish. Is it possible to have the Turkish version of the website as default with an option to switch it to English? In other words…when someone goes onto the site, the default site they see is in Turkish, but they have an option of switching it to English should they wish.
I’m thinking of adding this option to a friend’s WordPress site. I see there is a footer widget to switch languages.
If the user clicks the button to switch to “Spanish”, do the subsequent pages stay in Spanish? Or does one need to code each translated page button/link with the country-specific URL? For example, adding a /?lang=[ ]
You don’t need to code anything. WPML will generate proper URLs automatically. What you need to do however is to create your pages in other languages, meaning translating existing ones. You can do it manually for each of your pages, or you can use “bulk” translate options to handle multiple pages at once. You can even use machine translations if needed but for this to happen you need to use our ATE editor – please read more about it here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/
I purchased the Multilingual Blog option – which is what I had in the past, but after the purchase the instructions indicate I need to upgrade – the download instructions indicate that I need 2 additional zip files – but those aren’t included with the base price package – can you explain before I purchase an upgrade? For years I used the lowest package option without issue. I do not need translation help – all of my pages are already translated and manually added to my site
Hello,
you can still use the Multilingual Blog package if you’ve been doing fine with this option. I’m not sure where exactly you can see these instructions asking you for the extra files but additional WPML plugins are optional. If you could take some screenshots of these, upload it somewhere and share the link, I can take a look. Or you can renew your Multilingual Blog subscription, open a support ticket, and then our supporter will help you sort out your issue.
Thanks for your reply Agnes. The instructions that indicate the upgrade is necessary are here – https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/ – and this is what led my web designer to assume I needed to upgrade.
I have already purchased the subscription for the blog so I’ll proceed to open a support ticket there – I wanted to ask the upgrade question here as I felt that was most appropriate.
Hi!
Agnes is off for the day already. This article https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/ shows how to translate other parts of your site with the add-on modules, but they are not compulsory. If the Blog version is enough you can keep your subscription as-is. No need to upgrade.
Dear Friends
I have this account thomask-114. I want to ask something for a client. before about 1.5 year i bought wpml for one year and i tried to register 2 website the one of them with 2 languages. Before 2-3 days i see that one site is registered 2 times and not the one with 2 languages. So i delete it http://www.geopeen.gr because we dont use for the moment other languages. Now what i want to ask i have a new website and i see that i can download wpml from my account but can i register the website? The register is for tech support? Do i need a new account? Do i need to renewal the old one? or i can use it without tech support?
Hello Thomas,
I have checked your user and your Multilingual CMS subscription has expired on September 19, 2020. It means that you cannot register any domains, you cannot open tickets on our support forums and you cannot download WPML plugins. But you can use the existing ones (the ones you have installed). You would need to renew your existing account to get access to WPML plugins and register new sites. Please log in to your account and you will see an option to renew it.
Hello,
I checked both of your email addresses and haven’t found any user accounts with these emails in our system. Please use this email address hello@wpml.org to contact us directly to sort out this case. Thank you.
My Website have a multi-region with multilingual setup. i.e. One Child Site for one Region and default site is for everyone.
Each Region could have more than one Translations in that region.
1. WPML CMS is the right choice? All child/region sites are under one domain.
2. From Videos, Demos on internet. Does WPML Add a Translation of a Post, creates seperate post in that language like polylang?. If yes Can we only display only one translation on Admin Posts Page instead of all translated copies of posts?
3. On Posts Page Admin Panel the flags column for choosen languages, there are flag icons. Can we show same flags against each post instead of +(plus) or pencil(edit) icons?
4. Going to share the translated versions of Posts through Post Sharing Plugin. Will this work?
1. It’s not clear if we are talking about a WordPress Multisite and its subsites, where each of your subsites represents a separate region. If so, yes, you can use WPML in this case too.
2. “From Videos, Demos on internet. ” It looks like an unfinished sentenece.
>Does WPML Add a Translation of a Post, creates seperate post in that language like polylang?.
Yes, it does. Yes, it works similar to Polylang.
>If yes Can we only display only one translation on Admin Posts Page instead of all translated copies of posts?
By default, you see posts only from one language. On the admin panel you can also use the language switcher which allows you to see only posts from one language or all of them.
3. You can see the flags at the top of your page (please see https://youtu.be/hkJziIU6mI8?t=39). Not sure why you would need to display the flags against each post. But no, you cannot change it.
4. Yes, it should work because translated posts/pages are normal posts.
Also due to the large number of sites, we need the mechanism for connecting posts together to be really easy to do. If someone creates a post in French, they can’t manually link that to 49 other posts. What we’d ideally like is that you only need to connect to one site, and the other links will be automatically implied and created by your system. So say you connect that post to English, and that post has an existing link to Spanish. We’d need French and Spanish to then be linked without having to manually do that. Does it do that?
Conversely though, while I use English as an example, we can’t have an assumed “master” site, as some content wont exist at all in English. So you may have something that exists in French and Spanish only. Is that ok, or does your plugin require a sort of master?
Finally, I assume we can have translations for the slugs of custom post types and categories too?
Hello,
a multilingual site is usually available in 2-5 languages. I have never seen sites with more than 10 languages. WPML doesn’t connect existing posts, WPML allows you to create posts in other languages, and the moment you create them, they are already cross-connected. Maybe you are mixing up WPML with the MultilingualPress plugin? https://multilingualpress.org/
Hi there,
hope you are doing fine,
i have two main questions;
1- I have a website with a domain name “X.dk” for example and it’s main language ( i assume site language) is going to be in Danish with woo commerce and a danish payment method and then we are planning to have two more languages (we would first create only in danish and transfer it to another domain) as the following;
1- German
2- English
and once we are ready with it we would be transferring the whole site to another domain “Y.dk” for example. (only danish language at this part)
after we have transferred our site to our targeted domain we would add two more languages as described above.
so is it ideal to first create complete website design along with everything ready related to woo commerce in danish and transfer the website to “Y.dk” domain and then install your WPML plugin to add two more required languages like German and English?
my 2nd question is to confirm if i would be needing WPML CMS plan to use on my site since it would have woo commerce as well?
and i understood almost everything is possible in wpml like language switcher, manual translations, SEO etc
and also i would need only one domain and while configuring the plugin i would select the URL types as showed in that guide step 3. (i just wish to confirm this as well)
Hello,
1. Yes, you can add additional languages after transferring your domain.
2. Yes, if your site uses WooCommerce, you need to have the CMS pacakge.
3. Yes, if you have just one domain, you can select subfolders for languages. Yes, WPML allows you to add the language switcher, make manual translations, and translate SEO stuff.
Hello, I missed payment for my renewal. When I go to my invoices it shows subscription on-hold, and when I select pay now, it goes to the plan selection page. However, I had an old plan, before the plan change. Which is not listed, and on top, it shows me an error which is “This promotion has ended a while ago.” Can I pay the missed payment, to continue the existing plan?
I am curious because i cannot find any documentation on this but we have been using language specific domains i.e. buehler.fr, buehler.co.uk, etc.. for many years. Does any one know the ramifications with SEO if you start to use domains like buehelr.com/fr/ or buehler.com/de/ etc?
If we were to use the language specific domains along with the WPML plugin in a multi-site, I am guessing you would need a license for each site? I am also assuming that using mulit-site would not speed up my updating and maintenance time either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer to use domains such as buehler.com/de/ etc.. as it will make it way easier for me to maintain, update and create but, I cannot find anything anywhere about the SEO issues with switching.
Hi, I just purchased the Multilingual CMS to 5/6/2021 invoice number 8708345 under Monique Johnson ( she is the agency billing person). I made an error when typing her email address. I left out the (v) on the end so the email address should be moniquer.johnson@maryland.gov. I will be managing the account but she handles the bills. That is why it was in her name.
Monique has not received the credentials to sign in to the account. She has checked her spam folder and everything and has not received an email from WPML. Again her email is moniquer.johnson@maryland.gov. The letter (r) is at the end of her first name in the email address. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
I’m contemplating the purchase of your agency plan. It all seems straightforward enough, except I have two questions about automatic translations.
1) Is the 2000 free credits per month the total for the whole agency account, or does each website on which WPML is installed allocated 2000 free credits?
2) When one of the websites under my agency account incurs charges for additional credits, is that transaction reported per installation (so that I can allocate the expense appropriately?)
Hello Edward,
Please note that using machine translations requires having a special automatic translation account (also called ATE subscription), which is something else than your WPML subscription. You can create a separate ATE account for each of your sites or you can have only one account for all your sites. If you use the shared account, 2000 free credits are shared. This page explains how you can connect all your sites: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-subscription-for-multiple-sites/
Please decide which option would work better for you. If your goal is to control the expense per site, you might want to create two separate ATE accounts.
I have a common problem with WPML and Easy digital Download (I saw suport communication but didn’t manage to solve the problem myself with this public information) : My checkout page in french and spanish display the billing form , credit card info and personal info always in English.
When I am in WP Admin mode, I can see my forms correctly in french and spanish.
I discused with EDD, and I think that tthis matter comes from WPML, I don’t undestand which setting to enable to get these forms (to pay via EDD stripe) in the good language.
Hello Dan,
I am sorry for this. I am not a technical supporter and cannot assist you from here with your issue. Please log in to your account and start a new ticket in the forum. One of our technical supporters will be able to assist you. https://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support/
I am evaluating possible solutions for a customer of mine. Do you offer a time-limited demo account so that I can compare your product? Without it, I’m afraid I won’t be able to evaluate your software and thus be able to recommend it.
Hello Tom,
we don’t have any special demo of WPML and what we normally do is recommending purchasing WPML while keeping our refund policy in mind. But we use WPML plugins on Toolset demo sites. So if you are interested you can check WPML on Toolset sites. Toolset is another product of ours (for creating custom post types, fields etc). When creating your copy you would need to choose the “multilingual” option (“The site will be multilingual”) https://discover-wp.com/site-types/dog-walkers-directory-site/

Hello,
we will check if we received the money and if we do, we will manually change the status of your order to “completed”. If not, we will send you further instructions. I’ll keep you posted.

Best rgds,
Hello there,
I’m afraid it is not possible in the way you are mentioning, you will need to migrate one of your sites to the other server as WPML handles only one WP installation.
For migrating your content, you can use a plugin as WPML All Import plugin:
https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/wpml-all-import-plugin-website-import-with-wpml/
I hope it helps.

Hi Andrés
I unfortunatly dont have a license – I have made a full new installment of the site. I still hope you can point a direction?
The wpml is visible in the class a.active – wpml-lang-dropdown and .social-menu – menu-menu-ger-container.
You can see it a https://saksild.dk top menu and footer menu.

Yes, it is possible https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multilingual-seo/

Hi!
You will need the CMS version to translate your theme https://wpml.org/theme/woodmart/
Best regards,
My website is in English and I am translating into Turkish. Is it possible to have the Turkish version of the website as default with an option to switch it to English? In other words…when someone goes onto the site, the default site they see is in Turkish, but they have an option of switching it to English should they wish.
A bit like a reverse version of the site.
Yes, you can select Turkish as the default language https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/
Best regards,
Hi,
I’m thinking of adding this option to a friend’s WordPress site. I see there is a footer widget to switch languages.
If the user clicks the button to switch to “Spanish”, do the subsequent pages stay in Spanish? Or does one need to code each translated page button/link with the country-specific URL? For example, adding a /?lang=[ ]
Thanks in advance.
Hello Anne,
yes, we provide a widget allowing you to add the language switcher to the footer. You can also add the language switcher to your meanu. Please check the other options: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/
You don’t need to code anything. WPML will generate proper URLs automatically. What you need to do however is to create your pages in other languages, meaning translating existing ones. You can even use machine translations if needed but for this to happen you need to use our ATE editor – please read more about it here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/
Ah, regarding the language format. You can either use wpml.org?lang=es or subfolders: wpml.org/es/

Hi, I was wondering how the Multisite option works which you describe here https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multisite-support/languages-in-domains-for-wordpress-multisite-mode/. We’re going to have about 50 sites in the end, so the screenshots I’ve seen here https://cdn.wpml.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/wpml-features-translating-pages.png where you have flags shown on the list page isn’t going to be suitable. Is there another mechanism available for editing and connecting posts, once you have a multisite?

Hello,
we don’t provide lifetime licenses but renewals are optional. You can cancel your WPML subscription at any time and still use WPML plugins.
Hi, I have paid for the $29 plan but didnt receive my account password so far… can quickly send me? Thanks.

Hi Agnes,
Monique has not received the credentials to sign in to the account. She has checked her spam folder and everything and has not received an email from WPML. Again her email is moniquer.johnson@maryland.gov. The letter (r) is at the end of her first name in the email address. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Hello Linda,
You can request a new password here https://wpml.org/account/lost-my-password/
Let me know? I will reset it manually if not and send it via email.
Thanks!
E.
Hello,
I have a common problem with WPML and Easy digital Download (I saw suport communication but didn’t manage to solve the problem myself with this public information) : My checkout page in french and spanish display the billing form , credit card info and personal info always in English.
When I am in WP Admin mode, I can see my forms correctly in french and spanish.
I discused with EDD, and I think that tthis matter comes from WPML, I don’t undestand which setting to enable to get these forms (to pay via EDD stripe) in the good language.
Thank you for your help !
All the best,
Dan

I have only this question to answer, do I need to pay 79$ just to solve this ? 🙂
I see this other comment now. To access the tech forum you need an active subscription, yes.

Hello,
I am evaluating possible solutions for a customer of mine. Do you offer a time-limited demo account so that I can compare your product? Without it, I’m afraid I won’t be able to evaluate your software and thus be able to recommend it.
Kind regards,
Tom
Hello Tom,
we don’t have any special demo of WPML and what we normally do is recommending purchasing WPML while keeping our refund policy in mind.
Hello Agnes,
Thank you for your reply. I will check this out.
Kind regards,
Tom

Hello,
What you buy from us a yearly subscription, which you can cancel anytime. If you do, you can still use WPML plugins but you will lose access to updates and our support help.
