Hi, is it possible to make adjustments in the layout of a particular page automatically for the other translations? Suppose you have a page in Dutch, English and German, are the adjustments on the Dutch page automatically reflected on the English and German page?
Hello Emma,
Yes, the layout should be copied automatically into your translations. If you need to manually adjust it, you should translate your pages manually as explained in our documentation.
I hope it helps.

Hi there – we have a site of 200+ pages, with about a quarter already translated. We are interested in purchasing your plugin but are unsure of exactly how the annual renewal (or the lack thereof) impacts the site.
If we believe our site is not going to grow much more (i.e. once we’ve translated and set up language-switching menus/links and hreflang tags etc we don’t anticipate on adding many more pages) – would the structural elements of your plugin just stop working and break the site? Or is the annual renewal mainly to refresh translation credits?
I guess the big question is could we still use some functionality (and what are those features) if the plugin is not renewed?
Hello Dereck,
If you don’t renew your subscription you will lose updates and support but you will be able to keep using WPML as it is installed on your site. Your WPML settings and translations will remain the same.
More details here https://wpml.org/purchase/wpml-renewal/
my credit card details was changed. that’s why the automatic renewal was not successful. Is there a way I can pay the amount as stated in the last order. my site is working fine as there are not many changes.
Hello,
is it possible to export xliff files for external translation from internet site made with WooCommerce using Multilingual Blog pricing option (39 $)?
So I am talking about exporting xliff files on the landing page and in the store – products, descriptions.
Hello,
the XLIFF export feature is only available in the Multilingual CMS (or Agency) package.
Please note that WPML provides other options that can help you translate your content that you might find useful. For example you can add translator users to your site and assign content to translate by them. They can use automatic translation too to speed up the translation process. Automatic translations can be edited.
Hi there,
I’ve used WPML on another site and so am familiar with the setup. However, I now have a client who runs courses using WP Courseware (WP and the Avada theme). Does WPML work with that course creation plugin? I can see it covers lots with Learndash. I’m assuming yes, as it’s mainly just using post types and strings like any other setup. Would appreciate your opinion before I recommend it to my client.
Hello Martin,
there are some know compatibility issues with this plugin, please check the bottom part of this page: https://wpml.org/plugin/learndash-lms/
Hello Mario,
I can create a sandbox site for you with the WPML plugin installed but it will be empty and you would need to add content yourself. The best option to buy WPML is to buy it keeping our refund policy in mind which allows you to test the plugin for 30 days without risking anything.
We have created our site using custom php templates. Like in our site every content is comes from the php templates and we want to translate everything using the plugin.
Is that possible to translate every string of the theme(We are using custom theme)? Plus, we need to update the SEO schema, is that possible to translate the schemas too.
Plus, If I purchase the plugin that what is the limitations for the translation. Like Manually translation is unlimited or limited number of words.
Hello,
yes, you can use WPML with your custom templates and as long as you use gettext functions for your strings/texts they can be detected by WPML (you need the String Translation plugin, included in the CMS package). I need to consult the part about updating SEO schema with our developers. We don’t have too much information on that topic. I found only one related thread: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/schema-markup-rank-math-translation/
If you want to use automatic translations you will get 90 000 translation credits for free that will allow you to translate 45 000 words. If you need more, you need to check this page: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
Not sure how you are handling schema on your site but generally, the SEO schema is added with an SEO plugin (like Yoast). Yoast is doing that and we have some filters to adjust some little pieces. But generally there’s not much to do as the schema is reusing meta data of the post, and it should already be translated.
So it’s possible to translate the SEO schema (as any post meta data) using WPML.
Actually, the question was about WP Courseware, not LearnDash. I assume WPML works mostly with custom post types used by WP Courseware? I can’t find any reference to it on your site.
Hi there,
I have two WordPress websites and need a translation plugin for both. I use the Inspiro Theme for one website and Divi Design for the other. If I buy the Multilingual CMS plugin, can I install it on both sites?
Hello, yes you can.
The CMS package allows you to install WPML on 3 websites (and additionally on 9 testing/development websites – testing websites will have a small banner indicating that this is a development website).
You can, but I can see that your automatic renewal failed and you lost your discounts. I’m gonna ask my colleague Mercedes to contact you directly to sort this out.
We have the Multilingual Agency plan however the account is showing zero translation credits, whilst the pricing matrix shows we should have 180,000 credits. I don’t believe we’ve used any credits at all, and it last renewed in September 2022.
I have bought the plugin and i have question , My theme is all in English and i want to translate it to Arabic but i want to use arabic as default
Language of the site Now when i setup my WPML i had to make default language back to English as i couldn’t find arabic in the options since the theme is already English
Now when i translate the theme in arabic can i change the default Language to arabic without any error ?
Hello,
Thank you for buying the plugin. I’d recommend you using our support forum to ask follow-up questions. I checked your site and I can see that it uses Arabic but you don’t seem to use automatic translation yet. Your site is available in Arabic but with the English translation so I guess you are using the “appear as translated” option in WPML settings (the full name is “Translatable
use translation if available or fallback to default language”) which is not recommended when you want to change the default language. Please kindly open a support ticket on our forum and if you do use this option, mention it too. The person who will handle your ticket will advise you what are the best next steps to follow. Normally, it’s fine to switch the language.
Based on my needs, I am planning to purchase the solution but am not sure which solution to purchase – Blog or CMS.
What I am looking for is a solution for one content website, mainly consisting of blog articles (e.g. /blog/post-name/) and some landing pages in a few subfolders (e.g. /category/page-title/). I plan to have the website in 2 languages (English – primary language; Latvian – secondary language), and in some cases, I would want to create blog articles in the Latvian language about a certain topic but not have the article created in English (primary language). I won’t use a page builder, the site will be built via Gutenberg-based blocks. I don’t really need any fancy features like a side-by-side translation editor (as I am fine editing content in the basic editor), nor do I need auto translations, or translation management. The only few things I am not sure about are String Translations, and Full Site Editing support.
I would appreciate it if you could help me with some guidance on which one to choose for my needs (Blog or CMS), and bring up something that I would miss in Blog solution that I would have available in the CMS solution.
So I have to contact pre sales here, share my info with the public, add sensitive information involved in the pre sales question and then wait for a comment?
I have a site that uses an unlimited license from the developer. What happens if he removes our site from the list?
Are translations gone? The site stops working? Anything else?
Hello Charlie,
your site will continue working fine but you won’t be able to get WPML updates. Updates are needed to follow the WordPress release. What happened with the WordPress November release (6.1), WordPress had introduced some changes that would conflict with WPML old version and a WPML update was essential in that case.
I want to but WPML to start translating my website but have a few questions:
1. In SEO options, I’ve seen on videos that WPML lets you add hreflang tag to . However, the flag you show for Spanish is Spain’s and for English is UK’s; which makes me think that the hreflang tag to be added would be ‘es_ES’ for Spanish and ‘en_GB’ for English, and with these tags Google will interpret that I want my English content to only rank in UK and my Spanish content to only rank in Spain. But I am expecting the opposite, I want my English content to rank in all English speaking countries (UK, US, Canada, Ireland, etc.) and my Spanish content to rank in all Spanish speaking countries (Mexico, Spain, Argentina, etc.). Is there a way I can achieve this with WPML?
2. If my website is only informational (not e-commerce), monetizing with Google AdSense, and I’m planning to translate manually the homepage, 5 pages and 80 posts, would it be any reason to choose Multilingual CMS ($99) vs Multilingual Blog ($39)?
3. Could you elaborate more on ‘String Translation’? I still don’t know if that’s something I would really need because I still don’t understand the scope of that functionality.
4. By any chance, do you know if WPML is compatible with ASAP Theme (https://asaptheme.com/)?
Hello,
1. Yes, you would need to add these languages as so-called custom languages https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/editing-wpmls-languages-table/#adding-a-custom-language-in-the-setup-wizard
2. You need the CMS type of package if you want to use automatic translation, WPML’s Advanced Translation editor and translate additional strings (e.g. strings coming from the your themes or plugins, translate content created using popular page builders (Elementor, Divi,…), translate contact forms from popular contact form plugins.
3. Some examples: your texts/tsrings coming from your theme/plugins such as “Post comment” or “Contac us”. Please see more examples on this page: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/
4. I cannot see this theme on our list of themes compatible with WPML but it means we haven’t tested it. Most theme work with WPML out of the box as long as they were created by following the WordPress coding standards and best practices. The themes that might not work fully are themes that provide sophisticated features (e.g. remind page builders or which should be normally added via plugins).
I would like to buy the plug-in for my website but before doing that I have some questions:
1. is it possible to use wpml with different domain names on the same installation?
E.g.:
main website is: berlin123.de
Website for the English market is: londonabc.com
2. What happens with the url links?
Is there a chance to translate the url link as well? Same for WooCommerce.
E.g:
Link 1: berlin123.de/hund
Link 1 for En: londonabc.com/dog
3. Do I need for point 2 a multi site on the same word press installation? Will Wpml automatically duplicate the post for the second website?
Or if a multi site is not needed, does wpml duplicate the content creating a new url?
4. The href lang will be set automatically by wpml, right? Would it be the case even if using a multi site setup?
Hello,
1. Yes, it is possible and some of our clients use WPML like this, please see this site: https://smartcodic.sk/ but some special setup is required to be done on your server, please check this page for details: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/
2. Yes, they will work as you expect
please compare: https://smartcodic.sk/webove-stranky/ https://smartcodic.com/wordpress-websites/
3. No, one WordPress installation will suffice.
>Will Wpml automatically duplicate the post for the second website?
You translate your pages as you would do when using a standard setup (languages in subdirectories). The same rules apply. You have a few ways to translate your pages, including automatic translations.
4. Yes, WPML handles href langs attributes automatically. You can check the site I shared to see to an example. If you want to see how href lang attributes are handled for regular websites (when languages are in subdirectories), please check this site (wpml.org) – it uses WPML too.
Hello,
to translate strings coming from your themes you need the CMS package and the WPML String Translation module. I’m not sure how your CTAs are built – if you use a page builder such as Elementor, Divi or similar yes, you need the CMS package too.
Thank you for your response! Please find my comments below:
1. Apologies, I think my question wasn’t clear. I want one same content (one same URL) to rank for different countries speaking that language; for example, I want my URL http://www.mydomain.com/en/article-1/ to rank in UK, US, Australia, Canada, etc., like it would normally do when you don’t use the hreflang tag. I don’t want to have one version for UK, another version for US and another one for Australia. The same URL should rank for all English-speaking countries.
To give more context on question #1, the website that I want to translate to English is currently in Spanish only. I’m not using hreflang tags and my articles are raking in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile and other countries. I want to translate all these articles to English and have each article in a different URL (only one URL per article) and each article should rank in all English-speaking countries. But as mentioned above, what WPML is showing in documentation (en_GB, en_US or en_CA) seems like you target your articles for one single country, and that’s what I don’t want, I don’t want to have one version for UK, one for US and another one for Canada; but I want one same URL to rank in all of them as my current Spanish articles do on all Spanish-speaking countries.
2. Thank you, it’s clear now. I will need CMS pack then 🙂
3. Thank you, it’s clear now.
4.Thank you, I will ask the Theme’s support team to make sure they are following WordPress coding standards.
>> New Questions <<
5. When I ask WPML to translate my Spanish pages/articles to English, are the new language ones created with a new URL (for example mydomain.com/en/)? If so, will I then have those new URLs within my pages and articles list as separate entities that I can go and edit if necessary? On the other hand, are the new pages/articles first created as drafts that I can the go to, review them and only after that decide to publish them OR they are automatically published without having the option to review and edit?
6. Do you have any update on if the issue with WPML slowing speed on websites (which impacts SEO negatively) has been fixed/improved? I’m asking this because I’ve seen many WPML users complain about this.
7. If in the future, for some reason I need to deactivate WPML for a conflict with other plugin or any other issue, what happens with all the pages and articles already created? What happens with the website in general (strings, contact forms, etc.)?
Hello Luis,
1. In WPML you have two options for handling language “variations” (for languages such as English, Spanish, French, Deutch etc): use the general one, which is the default language WPML provides (for example, for Spanish, the hreflang would be hreflang=”es” (not es-ES, not es-AR, not es-CL, …) – please preview the HTML source of this (wpml.org) page to see what I mean) or add so-called custom languages where you can manually provide the languge code (e.g es-ES, es-AR, es-CL etc) that will be reflected in your custom hreflang attributes. One language defined in WPML = one hreflang. If you want, you can make these two pages (for the same language but for different regions) look exactly the same and to so you can use the so-called “duplicate” option in WPML. You will maintain one copy of this language on your WordPress site, but two separate URLs will be generated. You can read more about the duplicate opions here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/
You can also read more about regional languages here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/specialty/international/localized-versions#regional-variations-table
2.
When I ask WPML to translate my Spanish pages/articles to English, are the new language ones created with a new URL (for example mydomain.com/en/)?
Yes, that’s correct.
If so, will I then have those new URLs within my pages and articles list as separate entities that I can go and edit if necessary?
Yes, you can edit both the translated title and the translated slug (part of your URL that represents your title)
On the other hand, are the new pages/articles first created as drafts that I can the go to, review them and only after that decide to publish them OR they are automatically published without having the option to review and edit?
Both options are supported by WPML. When setting up WPML, the wizard will ask you which one you want to make your default. You can change these anytime later one.
Do you have any update on if the issue with WPML slowing speed on websites (which impacts SEO negatively) has been fixed/improved? I’m asking this because I’ve seen many WPML users complain about this.
Which specific users? Could you please provide somes pecific examples? We used to have performance issues long in the past and these were addressed. Can you please let me know which specific performanace issues you are concerned about? Please provide specific links.
7. If in the future, for some reason I need to deactivate WPML for a conflict with other plugin or any other issue, what happens with all the pages and articles already created? What happens with the website in general (strings, contact forms, etc.)?
Do you guys offer support for configuration?
I would like to move a domain.it to domain.com, and then installing wpml. The new domain .com, should have .it as subdirectory. So it should be .com/it, which means that the italian language shouldn’t be the “main” language anymore, instead english. How do I do that?
Hi, is it possible to make adjustments in the layout of a particular page automatically for the other translations? Suppose you have a page in Dutch, English and German, are the adjustments on the Dutch page automatically reflected on the English and German page?

In that case, you should first modify your original content and then update your translations.

Hello Kash,
we will review your case and see what we can do for you. I’ll contact you directly via email.
Hi Team,
Is WPML WordPress multisite compatible plugin? Thanks.
Hello,
yes, it is. WPML works on WordPress sites that are part of the WordPress Multisite network.

Hello Martin,
unfortunately, we are not compatible with WP Courseware. And my apologies for my misunderstanding your previous question.

Hello,
We have the Multilingual Agency plan however the account is showing zero translation credits, whilst the pricing matrix shows we should have 180,000 credits. I don’t believe we’ve used any credits at all, and it last renewed in September 2022.
Can you please advise?
Ah it’s because we bought it in September 23rd 2021, and the free credits are only for plans after 29th September 2021.
My question is answered
Correct! You can subscribe to our Pay-as-you-go option to use automatic translation
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/how-to-sign-up-for-pay-as-you-go/
I have bought the plugin and i have question , My theme is all in English and i want to translate it to Arabic but i want to use arabic as default
Language of the site Now when i setup my WPML i had to make default language back to English as i couldn’t find arabic in the options since the theme is already English
Now when i translate the theme in arabic can i change the default Language to arabic without any error ?
Please advice me which is best ways to do it !
Thank you
Hello,
Thank you for buying the plugin.
The only few things I am not sure about are String Translations, and Full Site Editing support.
I would appreciate it if you could help me with some guidance on which one to choose for my needs (Blog or CMS), and bring up something that I would miss in Blog solution that I would have available in the CMS solution.
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
if your site uses Full Site Editing you need the CMS package because this is how you can translate your FSE templates (do you have a need to translate templates too?), please check these two pages:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-content-created-using-gutenberg-editor/translating-sites-that-use-full-site-editing/
https://wpml.org/changelog/2022/01/wpml-4-5-3-compatibility-with-wordpress-5-9-and-full-site-editing/
and yes, to translate theme strings, you also need the CMS package too because you need the WPML String Translation plugin.
I’ll ask our documentation team to update the documentation to make it clear that you do need the CMS package in this case.
Please note that we don’t have the language switcher available as a Gutenberg block. It’s coming with the WPML 4.6 version which us currently in testing. It will take us a few weeks to make it available but the beta version should be there soon.
So I have to contact pre sales here, share my info with the public, add sensitive information involved in the pre sales question and then wait for a comment?
Really?
Hello, if you don’t want your questions to be publically available, please contact me directly. I’ve sent you an email.
The email address you provided when posting this comment doesn’t work.

Hello,

Hi, I am programing a New website that now is in a test directory, If I buy this plugin can I then chane the WordPress directory (URL) ?
Hello, yes, you can. I don’t know how you plan to migrate/move your site (some people use migration plugins) but WPML will handle this. If you used automatic translation on your testing site you will get a notice: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/using-advanced-translation-editor-when-you-move-or-use-a-copy-of-your-site/
Hi guys,
I would like to buy the plug-in for my website but before doing that I have some questions:
1. is it possible to use wpml with different domain names on the same installation?
E.g.:
main website is: berlin123.de
Website for the English market is: londonabc.com
2. What happens with the url links?
Is there a chance to translate the url link as well? Same for WooCommerce.
E.g:
Link 1: berlin123.de/hund
Link 1 for En: londonabc.com/dog
3. Do I need for point 2 a multi site on the same word press installation? Will Wpml automatically duplicate the post for the second website?
Or if a multi site is not needed, does wpml duplicate the content creating a new url?
4. The href lang will be set automatically by wpml, right? Would it be the case even if using a multi site setup?
Thanks a lot!
BR
Carlo
Hello,
2. Yes, they will work as you expect
please compare:

Hello.
With the basic paid plan (€39), will I be able to translate theme’s options? Like CTA and other stuff like “comment here”,”share”, etc?
Hello,
to translate strings coming from your themes you need the CMS package and the WPML String Translation module. I’m not sure how your CTAs are built – if you use a page builder such as Elementor, Divi or similar yes, you need the CMS package too.
Hi Agnes,
Thank you for your response!
Thank you.
Regards,
Luis
Hello Luis,
2.
Yes, that’s correct.
Yes, you can edit both the translated title and the translated slug (part of your URL that represents your title)
Both options are supported by WPML. When setting up WPML, the wizard will ask you which one you want to make your default. You can change these anytime later one.
Which specific users? Could you please provide somes pecific examples? We used to have performance issues long in the past and these were addressed. Can you please let me know which specific performanace issues you are concerned about? Please provide specific links.

Hello,
yes, we do. You need to contact us through this form: https://wpml.org/home/contact-us/contact-form/ and introduce your case. Please don’t forget to add the link to your site.
Do you guys offer support for configuration?
I would like to move a domain.it to domain.com, and then installing wpml. The new domain .com, should have .it as subdirectory. So it should be .com/it, which means that the italian language shouldn’t be the “main” language anymore, instead english. How do I do that?
Hello Lorena,
We can’t help you migrating your website from one domain to another, probably your hosting service may offer you that service. However, once you have done that, we can help you to setup WPML so you can have an /it/ directory for your translations.
Alternatively, you can also consider contacting one of our certified partners from this link: http://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-contractors/
You will get the custom assistance you need to get on with your project.
