Hello, I’m looking to get an answer to a couple of questions.
1) I’m looking at the Multilingual CMS offer but worried about the 90,000 credits limit. Can I purchase more if required? And if so, how much does that cost? The Agency license would likely be too much for me as it’s only one website with a lot of content.
2) Assuming that my website is built, has multiple pages and everything (including headers and footers) needs automatically translating into 10 languages. How long would this process roughly take? Can I simply add the 10 languages, automatically translate in the background and just go to review once completed or is there a lot of manual setup involved?

Theoretically, if all of your plugins and themes are compatible with WPML and with each other, it can take seconds to minutes to translate your entire site automatically to all languages. In practice, however, there are often some plugin/theme strings, menu labels, admin-texts, block widgets, slider templates…etc that may require some time to setup/register depending on if the plugins has been previously tested as compatible or not.
However, once one language is done and all relevant objects are registered for translation in one language, the following languages should not take any additional effort apart from manual translations where required. The time required to do this exercise can vary depending on your WordPress comfort. To shorten your translation effort, I would highly recommend having prepared a simple test case for all kinds of translatable content on your site: a product, a portfolio, a blog post, a booking, a course, a homepage template….etc. Then make use of our Support Forum to work with you to do any necessary steps to make each of these cases available for automatic translation.
Hi, I have a website that uses a plugin that translates the URL in required language, but I do not want to translate that URL, I just want to translate the content for that URL. Do we have a solution for that?
If we use this plugin does it translate the URL also?

We already have a “lifetime” licence but I have to add 1 or 2 websites to my licence, to translate. I tried to upgrade our plan to the fullest (199$) but it says that I already have it’s options. I just can’t see how to add an other website to translate in my list… thank you !

If you already have a lifetime subscription, there is no further subscription to uppgrade to. You should be able to register WPML on unlimited sites.

I have a Dutch website on a .nl. I have duplicated the Woocommerce webshop on a .de. I just want that WPML automatic translates from Dutch to German, but not show the Dutch version. Is this possible?
If the .nl and the .de sites are using the same WordPress database such that the domain mapping is simply affecting the URL format, then you can achieve what you want by:

I am interested in your plugin, but have some questions before purchasing.
I have seen that your plugin supports separate domains (domain.com and domain.mx) which is awesome. The following questions are in regards this scenario.
1a) How do other plugins view my site –> as one domain or two? Do I have to purchase plugins twice each time since there are two domains? (like with a multisite)
1b) What happens with the database in for example woocommerce. Is there a separate database for the .com site and a separate one for the .mx site?
I use Seo to drive traffic.
2A) How does google view my site, as separate or one site? For example if one domain gets penalized, is the other not affected because they are separate domains?
2b) How does google search console view my site –> do I register two different domains?
2C) I have read that one domain is parked for this (maybe I understood this wrong). Doesnt this affect seo negatively in regards of indexing?
I will try to answer your questions as you listed them.
1a. You site will be reached via two different URL addresses (i.e. different frontend sites) but the backend data resides in a SINGLE WordPress database. This would count as a single website from the point of view of your subscription/license.
1b. WPML works with a single database. It cannot work in a distributed manner across “multisite installations” or “separate server” installations. All .mx and .com products will reside in the same wp-posts WordPress table. Our plugin will map these various posts to their respective language assignments in our own tables and use filters to control which products are seen by your site visitors depending on the active url/languages they are using.
2a. Google crawls URLs, and for this reason, you would need to register both domains.
2b. Where the data resides (backend database) and how it is accessed (frontend URL) are different concepts. With the URL format of a language per domain, you can have individual sitemaps per language which is actually advantageous for your 2nd language SEO.
In answer to the persistence of your translations:
a) The translations reside in your site’s database so they will always be accessible even if you stop subscribing to WPML. The auto-translation is only used when you create the translation or at the moment you modify existing content.
b) You can always access the translation and modify it via WordPress editor as if it was a normal post.
I am not sure why you would think this to be the case. “Parked” domains are redirected to a primary domain (in this case your WordPress installation) for backend data which is where you posts in different languages reside.
“A parked domain is NOT a unique website. Instead, it is a masked forward to the primary domain name of your cPanel account, much like a website alias. Typically, most sites have a single domain name or a URL that leads to them. With parked domains, you get multiple URLs that lead to the same website.”

Your frontend URLs will always deliver content. Additionally, with WPML CMS and WPMLS SEO your domains will serve up language specific content and have language/domain specific sitemaps. If the data is coming from one server or distributed servers, I believe the web crawler does not care as long as data is served and not repeated.
Maybe you could give me an idea what precise concern you have with the indexing….?

I currently use Weglot to translate our professional travel blog with a button to shift from French (main language) to English.
I have a 200 000 word limit that I just reached and their next plan is really expensive.
Could you tell me what would be the best plan for our profileon WPML? How much would it cost us per year if we keep 1 language translation and let’s say around 500 000 words.
WPML does allow to translate any page on the website (I’m using Elementor Pro to build the website) right as long as I stay in the word limitation?
For Elementor Pro widgets, you will need to ensure that they are properly registered with WPML and then, yes, their content should be able to be picked up by our ATE and translated automatically. With our Pay-as-you-go plan, you just pay for what you use.
I guess I understand the matter of parked domains better now.
1) So when using two separate domains (domain.com and domain.mx) google sees them as completely separate?
2) Question related to parked domain. When backlinks are point to the .mx domain google can differentiate that the backlink is meant for the mexican site and not the US site?
3) If for example one site gets a penalty, is the other site affected as well because google groups them together?

1. Yes and No. Google will see both domains but will consider the .mx domain as a translation of the .com domain, or viceversa.
2. Yes, it should be differentiated.
3.That’s a good question. I’m not entire sure, but I would say that only one site will be penalised.
I have a multi-vendor marketplace using WCFM and WooCommerce. On the homepage of my site, there is a search bar for people to find products on the site (like amazon’s main search bar). I need the search bar to be multi-lingual. For example, if someone searches the word, ‘soap’ in english, I want the search results to also include, ‘jabon’ in spanish. If I install WPML, will it also make the search multi-lingual?

By default, WPML will throws the results only in the current language. If you need to do a multilingual search, I’m afraid you will need custom code or check if a search plugin provides you this feature.

I have two question about the free automatic translation credits included with the Agency option.
1. We would be using the plugin on multisite installation at a public university, where it will be used to translate course websites and sites for student services. Would the free credits apply to each site, or would they be they shared by all of them?
2. If users want to use automatic translation, would they need to provide credit card information only after the free credits are used up? Or, would they need to provide payment before they can use the free credits?

Hi, I am about to build a client’s website using Elementor and they want to have the ability to have an English and German website.
They have the copy in both English and German. Do you give the ability to manually update the copy to each language?
Also, they want a popup to appear when someone is viewing the wrong version of the website. If someone in Germany is viewing the English, it would pop up and suggest they view the German version. Is this possible? Could you share any documentation on it, please??

Our recommended way to translate your website created with Elementor is using our Advanced Translation Editor. However, you will always have the possibility to manually edit your translations using Elementor. Anyway, we recommend you to decide which method you prefer, and once you do it, stick to it as you risk to loose your translations if you mix both.
Regarding your second question, there is not a built-in feature for it. WPML provides you an Automatic Redirect Based on Browser Language feature though. But you will need to add some custom code in order to achieve the pop-up you mention.

We are in the process of developing a multilingual e-commerce website that will heavily rely on the WooCommerce plugin and your WPML plugin for translation support.
However, we have encountered a specific requirement that we are seeking assistance with. We need to translate not only Attribute terms (e.g., “Blue,” “Red,” etc.) but also Attribute names (e.g., “Color,” “Size,” etc.) programmatically via the API. As our e-shop will have a large number of attributes and translating them manually through the WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency interface would be highly time-consuming and inefficient.
Our team is proficient in custom script development, and if there is any viable method to accomplish this task through the API, we would be more than willing to implement it in our project. Any guidance, code snippets, or documentation references you can provide would be immensely helpful to us.

I’m not entire sure but I think it is not possible so far. Attributes names are just strings which should be translated with WPML String Translation, however, it seems we don’t a way yet to do this systematically through the REST API.

One language has already been setup and it is linked to a dummy machine translation engine. This is using an Astra Theme with Woocommerce and Elementor Pro. Everything is in a test environment so there may be some limitations as to what you can experiment with.

a) If I discontinue on second year, do the auto-translation content will be there ?

For Elementor Pro widgets, you will need to ensure that they are properly registered with WPML and then, yes, their content should be able to be picked up by our ATE and translated automatically. With our Pay-as-you-go plan, you just pay for what you use.

I guess I understand the matter of parked domains better now.
1) So when using two separate domains (domain.com and domain.mx) google sees them as completely separate?
2) Question related to parked domain. When backlinks are point to the .mx domain google can differentiate that the backlink is meant for the mexican site and not the US site?
3) If for example one site gets a penalty, is the other site affected as well because google groups them together?

1. Yes and No. Google will see both domains but will consider the .mx domain as a translation of the .com domain, or viceversa.
2. Yes, it should be differentiated.
3.That’s a good question. I’m not entire sure, but I would say that only one site will be penalised.

I have a multi-vendor marketplace using WCFM and WooCommerce. On the homepage of my site, there is a search bar for people to find products on the site (like amazon’s main search bar). I need the search bar to be multi-lingual. For example, if someone searches the word, ‘soap’ in english, I want the search results to also include, ‘jabon’ in spanish. If I install WPML, will it also make the search multi-lingual?

By default, WPML will throws the results only in the current language. If you need to do a multilingual search, I’m afraid you will need custom code or check if a search plugin provides you this feature.

I have two question about the free automatic translation credits included with the Agency option.
1. We would be using the plugin on multisite installation at a public university, where it will be used to translate course websites and sites for student services. Would the free credits apply to each site, or would they be they shared by all of them?
2. If users want to use automatic translation, would they need to provide credit card information only after the free credits are used up? Or, would they need to provide payment before they can use the free credits?
And do you have a pricing plan for non-profits or educational institutions?

Hi, I am about to build a client’s website using Elementor and they want to have the ability to have an English and German website.
They have the copy in both English and German. Do you give the ability to manually update the copy to each language?
Also, they want a popup to appear when someone is viewing the wrong version of the website. If someone in Germany is viewing the English, it would pop up and suggest they view the German version. Is this possible? Could you share any documentation on it, please??

Hello Joshua,
Our recommended way to translate your website created with Elementor is using our Advanced Translation Editor. However, you will always have the possibility to manually edit your translations using Elementor. Anyway, we recommend you to decide which method you prefer, and once you do it, stick to it as you risk to loose your translations if you mix both.
Regarding your second question, there is not a built-in feature for it. WPML provides you an Automatic Redirect Based on Browser Language feature though. But you will need to add some custom code in order to achieve the pop-up you mention.

However, we have encountered a specific requirement that we are seeking assistance with. We need to translate not only Attribute terms (e.g., “Blue,” “Red,” etc.) but also Attribute names (e.g., “Color,” “Size,” etc.) programmatically via the API. As our e-shop will have a large number of attributes and translating them manually through the WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency interface would be highly time-consuming and inefficient.

I’m not entire sure but I think it is not possible so far. Attributes names are just strings which should be translated with WPML String Translation, however, it seems we don’t a way yet to do this systematically through the REST API.
Anyway, it would be better if you open a chat in our support, in that way we can check this carefully.

One language has already been setup and it is linked to a dummy machine translation engine. This is using an Astra Theme with Woocommerce and Elementor Pro. Everything is in a test environment so there may be some limitations as to what you can experiment with.
